rbw1966 Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Chris made it sound like there was a lot of assisted rub outs going down. Sounds like I'd need to shave the goatee and start wearing more polyesther in order to fit in with the Bugs crowd. Was the Hedgehog there too? Quote
fshrgrl Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Well no matter how crappy I feel during the race, or unmotivated to get out of the van, the thought that will keep me going will be: "This hill may suck right now, but it sure beats slogging up Adams with a full pack and fatty skis that act like sails in the cross wind practically sending me sliding on my ass!" Nosirree, falling in and out of a van for 24+ hours will be cake... Quote
rbw1966 Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 You've never done H to C before have you? Quote

But I remember thinking then that it was a piece of cake compared to the 24 hour mountain bike race I did in West Virginia (talk about being scared of getting a flat in the woods at 4 am!!) 2 years earlier. You're not worried about something mechanical going wrong, like you are in a bike race, you just run. Then you get in the van and you sleep. No biggie. Of course, I probably be eating my words in 48 hours or so.... Quote

erik Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 UUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY LEGS ARE SORE! GOOD TIMES FOR SURE THO! Quote
fshrgrl Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 Hope everyone made it and had a good time, know I did! I'm hurtin' too! The best story from our team is runner 10 on first leg is going through that portion of Portland commonly known as Tonya Hardingville when a little girl in her frontyard yells, "HEY, HEY YOU!" Whereupon our guy looks over and she says, "THIS IS WHAT MY BROTHER THINKS OF YOUR HOBBY!!" At which point her about 6 year old brother drops trou and moons him! That and the woman who flashed everyone her tits as she was finishing leg 34. (And no, it wasn't me...) Quote
gapertimmy Posted August 25, 2003 Author Posted August 25, 2003 erik i thought you were gonnna go climb today we went for a jog on the beach this morning cuz we're effin bad asses like that! excellent time, what was everybody else's team names? i know thrash's squad and "toast" in it, but there was like 3 teams with variations of hood to toast or toast or coast or somtin like that. erik Quote
MtnHigh Posted August 25, 2003 Posted August 25, 2003 Didn't run into team snaffle or see rob or michelle, but did see a bull mounting a cow on leg 33. Our van was decorated with a dragon tail hanging off the back and bloody teeth painted along the sides. Quote
rbw1966 Posted August 25, 2003 Posted August 25, 2003 Our van was for the most part undecorated. Next year it will be bad ass. I ran my first ever 5-minute mile. Then quickly reverted back to my standard 7 to 8 minute miles. Consumed many beers but not enough to forget how badly my quads hurt. Highlights: one of the female attorneys in my van flashing our runner (and the other guys in the van watching); "My other van is your mom"; several runners making a wrong turn outside of Olney and running more than 5 miles out of the way; the stench of ben-gay overpowering the BO hanging in our van like a gray haze.
