kitten Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 Do you think it is possible that if there were less Christina's & Britney's in this generation - there could be less pressure on younger kids? It seems the clothes get tighter & smaller. The teenagers or even worse pre-teens are already interested in sex. It would be one thing to explore the body by playing 'doctor', but they are getting pregnant. Religion may seem out of wack for some - but it scares me to think of what my daughter could be doing in 10 years. If dressing appropriately and watching decent movies helps - why the hell not. Protect them for as long as you can - they will figure it out soon enough ALL ON THEIR OWN. Quote
minx Posted June 14, 2003 Author Posted June 14, 2003 kitten, i don't entirely disagree w/you. i'm probably a more conservative parent than i ever expected i would be (probably more liberal than most though ). BUT i think it's up to the parent to parent. I don't think religion need be any part of raising a child. That's just me and maybe my kid's a monster but i like him! Quote
kitten Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 Minx ~ It is not religion that raises a child, you are right, it is the PARENTS duty or privledge. But many don't see rearing children as a serious responsibility. They seem to believe or behave in a manner that is destructive - what will be - will be. NOT WITH KIDS. They need serious, loving, and disciplined GROWN-UPS to teach them, to nuture them, to encourage them, and the guide them. Kids are not born knowing the difference between right and wrong. Hell - many adults don't even know the difference. If having strong morals in a church or religion helps child rearing - why not? Quote

Your kid is no monster, but it would seem that his vote coule be bought out by toys... Being a part of this young generation I did see younger kids having sex, but that is their choice. I do think parents should talk to their kids about sex, but they shouldn't tell them what to do. They need to show them the consequences and teach them about safe sex, and then let the kids decide. I'm sure most parents on this board would disagree with me, but hey I'm just a kid My father is a doctor so I learned about safe sex, and they never told me not to have sex. It's a personal thing, and should be left a personal choice Quote
minx Posted June 16, 2003 Author Posted June 16, 2003 hey i didn't mean to start a parenting debate...just thought the site was a dose of what's out there! as for being bribed w/toys...heck yeah! but only close to his b-day Quote
