PaulB Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 What crampons do you folks prefer to use with boots like the Trango S or the Tower GTX, which don't have a toe welt? My main concern is how secure the crampons will be when doing the occaisonal bit of frointpointing. Thanks. Quote
MysticNacho Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 If it doesn't have a toe rand, or bail, or whatever its called, how do you plan on using cramp-o-matic anyway? Quote
MysticNacho Posted June 14, 2003 Posted June 14, 2003 whup! scratch that, newmatic vs straps.... my bad. Quote
Distel32 Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 I just got stubai aluminum straps, and they worked well today, first time I used them. I'll let you know next week after rainer. They are a few ounces lighter if you're looking for lightweight. I have trango extremes with toe and heel welts, but the straps are just too light pass up. Plus people say they work very well on almost everything alpine. not WI, but firm snow/glacier ice yes. Quote
Kevin_Ristau Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 I have a pair of BD Sabretooth Clip (newmatic binding). They work well on everything from my Trango Plus's to my AT boots, on snow and steep ice. Quote
skyclimb Posted June 15, 2003 Posted June 15, 2003 SMC, any further questions?? How can you disagree with something so time tested and honored?? Quote
Rodchester Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 I have new-matic style in steel (Grivel) and aluminum (Camp) ...and would buy them all over again. Quote
