JoshK Posted May 7, 2003 Posted May 7, 2003 I want to go for a run after lunch today. I was going to go do mount si, cause it's quick and I know where it is. everybody is always taking about mailbox peak. I admit a change of locale would be nice. how do I get there and how does it compare to si in distance, elevation, etc? i'm just looking for an uphill jog, so views/etc. are secondary. Quote
JGowans Posted May 7, 2003 Posted May 7, 2003 Get on Middle Fork Road (exit 34 I believe from I-90) just past the truck stops. Drive about 3 miles and you'll see a parking lot on your left hand side and a gate off to the right. The first 1/2 mile is a logging road. The entrace to the trail is a little path into the woods on the left hand side. It's much steeper than Si, the trail is not at all well maintained and I'd be VERY impressed if you were able to run up that trail. Distance is about 3 miles up I believe with about 4000 feet elevation gain. There's now a fire hydrant and ladders up there to keep the mailbox company. It's a nice day for it for sure. Quote
JoshK Posted May 7, 2003 Author Posted May 7, 2003 Thanks for the info. My "run" on si generally degrades into a very fast hike, truth be told. Still sounds like great excercise, which is what I'm aiming for. Quote
To_The_Top Posted May 7, 2003 Posted May 7, 2003 Here is a recent news article: Mailbox Similar description to JG's post: Take exit at Kens truck stop (last N. Bend eastbound), drive past the gas stations (heading north) and take rt 1/4 mile out, stay on road and park just before road turns to gravel. Hike logging road heading uphill to the east, for 1/3 mile, passing a clearcut. Look for a discrete trail on the left, going past a creek, then it starts UP, with several way trails that all go to the summit. Have fun and read the stuff in the mailbox. TTT Quote
minx Posted May 7, 2003 Posted May 7, 2003 mail box trail is good and muddy right now. I was there yesterday. enjoy! Quote
AlpineK Posted May 7, 2003 Posted May 7, 2003 My dad says you should save Mailbox peak for when you're at least 70 years old. You wont be able to fully enjoy it till then. Quote
