scott Posted April 26, 2003 Posted April 26, 2003 anyone know if there is ice in valdez as early as the last two weeks in october? anywhere else in alaska this early? thanks. Quote
specialed Posted April 27, 2003 Posted April 27, 2003 According to the Cock and Lice ice report http://pub75.ezboard.com/fclimbrockandicefrm2 Apparantly as of 3/3 its good, but that doesn't mean much I'd also recomend calling Alaska Mtneering in Anchorage 907-272-1811 there's probably someone who would know current conditions. scott Posted April 27, 2003 Author Posted April 27, 2003 (edited) Ok, I can call, but I am looking for average years -- is there ice by october 15th through - november 1? it looks like not, average temps don't drop below 30 until mid november. Edited April 27, 2003 by scott Quote
glassgowkiss Posted April 27, 2003 Posted April 27, 2003 more inland there is ice by that time, but on the coast it would be early. canadian rockies have usually good conditions at this time though. Quote
specialed Posted April 27, 2003 Posted April 27, 2003 I think October is a killer time to be in the Rockies, b/c a lot of the big routes are in then. Quote
David_Parker Posted April 29, 2003 Posted April 29, 2003 I doubt it. Valdez is the furthest north ice free port in North America which means fairly temperate. The ice is not far from the bay so somewhat affected by the ocean temperatures. Call Brian Teale or Andy Embick to find out. Quote
