Valdez season

anyone know if there is ice in valdez as early as the last two weeks in october? anywhere else in alaska this early? thanks.

I'd also recomend calling Alaska Mtneering in Anchorage 907-272-1811 there's probably someone who would know current conditions.

Ok, I can call, but I am looking for average years --

is there ice by october 15th through - november 1?

 

it looks like not, average temps don't drop below 30 until mid november.

more inland there is ice by that time, but on the coast it would be early. canadian rockies have usually good conditions at this time though.

I think October is a killer time to be in the Rockies, b/c a lot of the big routes are in then.

I doubt it. Valdez is the furthest north ice free port in North America which means fairly temperate. The ice is not far from the bay so somewhat affected by the ocean temperatures. Call Brian Teale or Andy Embick to find out.
