Thinker
this is what I wanted to post! from here The process used to make today's CPUs is known as CMOS, Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) technology. One of the characteristics of semiconductors made with this process is that they tend to become more efficient as we lower their operating temperature. For example at -120C the efficiency of a CMOS CPU simply doubles. So if we are able to cool the CPU down to -120C we might very well be able to run it at double its designed speed. But the equipment and expense needed to get and keep the CPU running at that temperature reliably are far beyond most of our budgets.
