Greg_W Posted February 14, 2003 Posted February 14, 2003 THERE IS ALSO WEBBING NOW ONTOP OF MAGIC FERN/ISTANBUL, THOUGH I DONT THINK THERE ARE RINGS. That webbing looked pretty ratty when I was there on Wednesday. Plus, I think it's tied in an American Death Triangle. Quote
erik Posted February 14, 2003 Posted February 14, 2003 well i tied it like a month ago and that shit aint no death triangle magiv fern, is more flared hand crack. no real o/w technique required. Quote
mattp Posted February 14, 2003 Posted February 14, 2003 Death triangle or not - what does it matter? I understand the vector analysis, and I agree that we should where possible avoid the American death triangle but the danger imparted by the additional forces placed on two anchor bolts incorrectly slung is completely exaggerated. If there are two bolts, or two trees or whatever, back it up as you see fit and then put a locking carabiner on it. You're good to go for a toprope. Quote

Don't sweat it Holmes, just go have fun with it! My bad Erik; I was looking at it from an angle and 40' away. My apologies. Quote
chucK Posted February 14, 2003 Author Posted February 14, 2003 (edited) magiv fern, is more flared hand crack. no real o/w technique required. True, if you stick it deep inside. But it looks like an OW from the ground . It's a fun pitch, quite varied, though a bit dirty. Many years ago Dave Shuldt, cascadesprayer extraordinaire, schooled me on that thing. And by the way, no real OW technique required on Battered Sandwich either. Edited February 14, 2003 by chucK Quote
