Trip: Hood - Flying Buttress & Wy'east

Trip Date: 05/15/2020

Trip Report:

 

Timberline access is back to normal-ish.  

 

My current condition ratings, obviously these should be taken with a grain of salt.  Photos attached.

Hogsback/Old Chute: A+
Pearly Gates: A+  (didn't climb, just visual)
Wy'east: A+
DKH V1/2: D (didn't climb, just visual)
Flying Buttress: B+

It looks like they are turning the T-line into a crazy land. We now must purchase a ticket to get there?  As always, the businesses and the government are trying to patch their budgets out of our pockets and the climbers are not even considered.

There are other ways you can climb Mt Hood. Park at the snow park parking lot across the White River Recreational area and follow the White river canyon to a great weakness in the canyon wall from where you can get to the south side. This trip will add extra 2000 ft to your climb.

From Mt Hood Meadows, you climb North-East-facing routes

you don't need to pay or have any reservation if you are climbing or backcountry skiing from timberline.  You need to park in the climbers lot and that's it.  no passes for your window or anything like that.

There was a brief period of time (C19 closure related) that to access the Timberline Highway you needed a hotel reservation at the Timberline Lodge.  Typically this is not the case.
