Michael Telstad Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Does anyone know if Ride of the Valkyries has seen any action in a while? Seeing that its a Hugh Herr FA has me wondering if it's a major sandbag. Or if the beta is to wear stilts with camhooks on the end and helium balloons tied around your ankles. Quote
viktor Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 my guess is no traffic never was cleaned in the first place perhaps an ambitious citizen can resurrect it. It is a cool line. Likely needs modern anchors above and below Quote
dickcilley Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 pretty sad really that noone gets on a seperate reality quality roof crack right by the road. Quote
dberdinka Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 dick cilley......when I was 17 years old in the ancient year of 1990...you were living out of your van selling gear in Icicle Creek...no one around....plenty of camping......those were the best of days...... Quote

I still have a chalk bag I bought from Dick about that same time at the Snow Creek TH . He had a mannequin riding shotgun in his van and told stories of being hassled by The Man about vagabonding and being, well, eccentric. I learned later of his substantial contributions to Leavenworth climbing. Edited July 14, 2019 by matt_warfield Quote

I guess every generation in WA says the same though. I know the crowding since Treaty times has been a one way ratchet, with no relief in sight. Quote
Szyjakowski Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Always looked wide to me from below as one can see daylight from ground near apex of roof. Lots of potential in the vicinity for other gems or resurrections. Quote
Sol Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 Jens tried it a number of years back (10?) but the ancient pins? he saw kept him from really comitting to it. He said it could use a bolt or two to be safe but looked cool. Quote
Michael Telstad Posted August 31, 2019 Author Posted August 31, 2019 (edited) I've been cleaning it up lately and it seems totally safe. No pins in the roof (1 oxidized fixed nut) and plenty of gear opportunities made it an easy aid solo to get the rope up. All anchors have been replaced but i'm still waiting to get my hands on some chain. I'm gonna give it some more scrubbing and a free burn on Tuesday. I'll also be taking my rope down then, sorry about the eye sore. P1 is more or less good to go but still needs chain on the anchor. I may also do some work on the other routes that you access from the alcove. Edited August 31, 2019 by Michael Telstad 1 Quote
