  1. Here's one for you. I'm working on getting a bunch posted on a web site or something.
  2. They need to get the Libery Ridge out of "50 Classic Climbs". Too many yahoos totally underestimate that climb. Either that or move it to Mt Adams or the North Cascades!
  3. You know, I've been trying to climb the Liberty Ridge for years. No wonder I never made it. I had no clue it was in the North Cascades! And to think I always thought it was on Mt Adams!!!
  4. Hey V, do you dance? Who's all coming so far to your B-day party. Also, can I drive a boat to the Nickerson? I don't know where it is???
  5. This question comes up all the time. I'm pretty sure they don't ask for ID up there! So if they bust you, tell them your Joe Schmoe, 165 Glissade Road, Denver, Colorado. Any stories of people actually being escorted down at gun point???
  6. Wayne and I climbed the NE butt of Goode in spectacular conditions. A LOT more snow than we expected, but this worked to our advantage; it allowed us to cross a totally raging torment of a river that otherwise would have been impossible. If you want this route, it will be easier sooner than later when the snow bridge collapses in a few more weeks. Hint: the snow also makes the descent on the west side easier. We used SW couloir to Storm-King col. Piece of cake! Got lots of photos too!
  7. Royal Robbins?
  8. You mean there's actually a difference between these two rags? Bla, Bla, Bla. I stopped subscribing to them when the "bolt" wars started way back. Now I have to see this shit all over cc. The Bolt war is just like the war between Palistines and Israelies. No one will win, it will last forever and there ain't nothin' you and I can do about it.
  9. All deaths in the mountains are tragic but this, in my opinion, has an extraordinary level to it. Can you imagine what these brother's mother (and father) are feeling right now. Reminds me of the WWII story of the Sullivan brothers and the basis for "Saving Private Ryan". My mom was extremely concerned when I guided my father and brother up Rainier a few years ago. This is truly a nightmare come true. I can't empathize by sure can sympathize.
  10. quote: Originally posted by Tommy: and a large enough landing area (i.e., about 200+ square feet and obstacle free, or knee-deep to deeper water. I'd like to watch you jump the upper town wall, land in the skykomish river and paddle your rig through Boulder drop!
  11. You could run around Mt Rainier on the wonderland trail!
  12. Sounds like it's down to the Zoo or Alki. Now lets decide boys and girls before end of TODAY so some of us can make a plan! MattP??? what say yee?
  13. So what kind of ski gear were they on?? Alpine, AT or Tele?
  14. The slopes above PC are bombed fairly regularly as are the slopes above the Bourgeau climbs. However in Canada there are phone numbers you can call to get info. I believe they use helicopters to drop the charges on PC.
  15. I'm inclined to come over this week. I need to stop by feathered friends and then I could drink after. I won't have a car and wouldn't mind a ride out to the Alki which is my vote!
  16. Does anyone suspect a correlation between where one starts climbing and the type of climbing (and ethics) they prefer? Some folks start out hiking because they enjoy the outdoors. They like being in the mountains and breathing fresh air. Eventually they begin to aspire to bagging peaks, which begins with scrambling up moderate slopes. Then they realize that more challenges come with the advent of roped climbing so they learn to rock climb. It's only natural that they see the merits of buying gear and learning the art of placing protection. Eventually they become "alpinists" and prefer the "traditional" style of climbing. On the other hand, some climbers prefer to take the fast route and start in climbing gyms. They perceive climbing as more of an athletic or gymnastic endeavor with serious consequences. They aspire to climbing the "numbers ladder" and prefer to climb at the crags and prefer to clip bolts, although are willing to place gear sometimes, but don't really like it. We call them "sport" climbers. So where/how did you start and how do you correlate your origination into climbing to who you've become and what your "ethics" are? 17. Dennis, check you PM
  18. How do you get a degree on Cascade Climbers anyway? By a certain number of posts?
  19. Ironic the governing body is the Department of Firearms and Alchohol; now there's a good mix!!!
  20. I rooted for the Avs last year because I really wanted Ray Bourke to get his name on the cup. Too bad it wasn't with Boston, but he definitely deserved to win one Stanley Cup. Guess I sort of felt the same for Dominique Hashik (and Brett Hull, but does he already have a cup with another team?). Congrats to those guys. I missed the game, what was the score? The 'canes will be back again next year anyway. Being a Boston fan is difficult (hockey, baseball and until this year football) The Celtics had their heyday in the 80's so I'm not so bummed when they lose. I root for the Red Sox because I HATE the Yankees!
  21. I wonder what would have happened if you just forged past them anyway. Were they packing heat (other than explosives) to stop you?
  22. My son gets nose bleeds regularly. If they don't stop with normal nose pinching, the doctor said to use nasal spray (decongestant). It works!
  23. North Face Couloir of Mt. Buckner! At least it's very similar looking! [ 06-13-2002, 01:18 PM: Message edited by: David Parker ]
  24. I would be inclined to wear the chest harness if the possibility of falling in a crevasse was "higher than average"; whatever that is. Still, I wouldn't clip it in until after I was hanging in a crevasse, hopefully not unconscious. There's risks no matter which way you do it.
  25. THIS is what you get when you aint the lead dog!!! It aint that "hot" either, DRU
