If you want an SLR. If you want a camera that's portable and that you might actually use while climbing or skiing - get a P&S! I've owned SLR's, I'm looking to buy a D-SLR, SLR's sit on a shelf most of the time for me. What good are better pictures you don't take? If you are worried about battery life with yur rechargeable battery, buy a 2nd battery and charge it before you go. Cheaper than a disposable camera, or a new camera.
