  1. Agree with what was said above. It's a good value if you want to learn and a good way to meet people, but they are very old school (or at least were when I took it ~13 years ago). I asked the then president (can't remember his name) when he came on a rock field trip and was an instructor for my group about if it was safe for him to use his harness that he has had for 20 years. He proceeded to put me in my place as there was no way a 17 year old could give him any advice as he's been climbing for 20 something years and knew it all. In hindsight some of my gripes were the over emphasis on hip belays, how many are like "purist" that were very rigid in their views about climbing only in boots and with chocks rather than using rock shoes and cams. Also, the groups are notoriously large and slow and is painful when you get stuck behind them.
  2. Used pair of black diamond sabertooth crampons. They have been used quite a bit, but still work great. Step in style. Size large. Asking $40.
  3. I was wondering the same thing. Seems unlikely multiple rope teams would have all fallen from something like a single misstep or something. Regardless, sad situation and condolences to friends and families.
  4. Not set in stone, but might be seeing you up there then
  5. According to the Forest Service on April 17 when I asked about information on the road being open to Adams "The road should be open this year within the next month from last projections." I'm not sure if they were referring to the road all the way to the trailhead, or just the road in general as I think it was closed for a bit and the last report on 4/25 says it's open for like 2 miles now (still 5 miles from the trailhead) Somehow I'm not optimistic about it being open all the way to Cold Springs at 5000+ within the next 2 weeks when NWAC says paradise at a similar elevation has a snow depth of 176 inches today. Let me know if you find anything more out.
  6. Any idea what size boots fit an xl? I didn't see a size chart on the website
  7. @Kris According to the forest service when I emailed them the end of last week about info on when the road becomes accessible to the trailhead, they responded by saying "The road should be open this year within the next month from last projections". Even if it's not all the way open, it might not be as bad as 7 extra miles
  8. Anybody interested in climbing Adams sometime in the nearish future? One of the last volcanoes around for me to climb. I'm coming off shoulder surgery this past fall, so it'd be a good way to start getting into shape again after sitting around all winter getting fat. Not sure when the road to the trailhead usually becomes accessible, so dates might be dependent on that.
  9. Looking for some people interested in doing the W. Buttress on Denali next year. Have a small group of us that working towards getting something together, seeing if there's a few more out there interested. Still a ways out, but takes some advanced planning for people like me that only have so much vacation time to save enough for a trip like Denali. Also would like to get some day or weekend training/conditioner climb(s) in over the summer and beyond. I'm guessing it would be about $2500-3000 pp, plus whatever gear you need to either rent/buy. Planning on about 3 weeks.
  10. Hey a friend and I were looking into denali in 2015 but both agreed we'd feel a little more comfortable having at least an extra person, if not a few other people around. Are you still considering that and if so are you still looking for people to go with?
  11. I'm "in the market" for some new climbing partners as my current climbing partner's have work/family responsibilities that make scheduling somewhat difficult and I don't end up getting out as much as I'd like. Only issue is that I live on the other side of the cascades, but I'm used to driving.
  12. I have several ideas for some climbs that are on my list and am looking for some more climbing partners if anybody is interested. I'm pretty flexible, don't have any dates in mind, some would be more spring climbs, some are more summer climbs. Probably will take a season or two to knock them all off. If there are any of these trips that anybody would be interested in making/joining in on plans, shoot me a message. Adams, spring ski of south spur? Sahale Forbidden, West Ridge Colchuck Stuart, either west ridge or spring climb of Cascadian Couloir Challenger, Challenger Glacier Glacier Peak (any route) Ruth Mtn Cutthroat, W Ridge? Open to other ideas as well.... I've been climbing for a number of years and have gear. Helps to know how experienced people are; some list of climbs that I've done/led: Rainier, Baker, Shuksan, Ingalls, Tooth, Liberty Bell, Eldorado, Grand Teton, Hood, Gannett, as well as several others around here and some less known in Idaho and Utah. More than happy to climb with beginners as well if the climb is appropriate. P.s. I am not an axe murder, and would prefer it if you aren't either
  13. I'd be interested but agree with what was said above. With what looks to be a pretty certain storm system moving in, and from NWAC forecast, not sure there's much terrain worth venturing into. Might be a resort kind of weekend. http://www.nwac.us/forecast/avalanche/current/zone/7/
  14. Looking for getting a tent for 3+season trips in the N. Cascades/volcanoes that have potential to wanting a 4 season tent. Not a fan of the idea of lugging an 8-9 lb double wall tent. I like the idea of a single wall from the sake of the weight specs, but am hesitant about them after sleeping in a friends TNF Assault; it worked well on Rainier in great weather, horrible experience on shuksan when the clouds rolled in and a light rain/mist ensued. Recommendations?
  15. I'm so sorry. I just have one word to say: flat. . But perhaps you have one word to say: job. The good news is you are still relatively close to some of the best cragging and alpine around. Haha thanks for the sympathy. Oh well, glad to at least be back in WA and have a job and be reasonable close like you said to some pretty epic stuff once again.
  16. I'm new to this site as well. Recently moved to Moses Lake..not much in the way of outdoorsy people here, just lots of rednecks. I know a few people on the westside of the state to climb and ski with, but could use some more local connections as well.
