  1. My buddy and I are talking February for this climb....You guys have given me a lot to think about... Winter sounds intense but a summit tag would be pretty epic if we could do it. I'm going to hit the hardware store soon for some bamboo sticks for wands. I'm thinking 25 or 30 would do nicely. My climbing partner is also in the GPS industry so we'd definitely bring along a GPS for white out conditions. What's the policy on carrying dex? Sounds like it could be a good thing to have on any climb where altitude be a serious issue. A friend of mine was involved in a rescue on Everest a few years back and he said dex was a complete game changer in getting the climber on their feet and down the mountain. Can you get a prescription injector from your doctor?
  2. Dude.. that is so brutal and really too bad... With the mountains come danger...
  3. WOW! That sounds intense... If I went to Shasta in the Winter I'd probably go Denali equipped... mitts, overboots, insulated pants, big puffer (the whole shebang)... Definitely a tent too... Safety first!! Would you recommend bringing a couple pickets? Any use for running belays on that route?
  4. Anyone done this route? I'm thinking about it for this Jan/Feb if conditions/weather allow... It looks SICK!
  5. I MUST have passed you somewhere on the mountain... cool beans, bro! Congrats on the summit!!
  6. Yeah, fellas! What a climb... It's surreal the whole time you're there... I feel like I'm still processing. I'm doing a Mt. Shasta climb in August and I'm hoping I can squeeze in a Rainier summit before school starts up again. Rainier will have to wait if my buddies end up agreeing to bike to San Diego with me
  7. Anyone else go to Denali this year? How was it for you?
  8. check out pix here:
  9. 21 days on the mountain... It was a truly epic climb. I spent a week in Anchorage hanging out with a buddy and did some class 4 river rafting on the Matanuska River and yachting on the Prince William Sound. Jumped a 1 AM flight outta Ancho-town last night and am back safe in California. Boy, what a ride! Now I'll probably sleep for a week....
  10. CMON! Anyone!?
  11. Thanks man. I'll be careful. I know all too well about those accidents (I know someone that was involved in one) I'll definitely be shooting some footage up there... no guarantee that it will turn out as nice as yours though. What kind of camera were you using??
  12. Maybe early sept?
  13. Hey Fellas Thinking about hitting up Rainier during the last week of August... Anyone in the Seattle area with vehicle down to make it happen? (split gas and stuff) hmm?
  14. Sweet vid! I'm from the bay area as well. I head to Denali on Tuesday!
  15. Holy Sh*t that is beautiful!!! Thanks for the advice.. I'll definitely do that. Stoked!!
  16. I have a brand new, unused set of xxl brooks ranger overboots. I don't need them because I got some 40 below overboots instead. These will fit boots size 12-15. I'll let them go for $20 plus shipping costs.
  17. I called and spoke with Joel from Forty Below today. That guy is awesome to talk to... He really knows his stuff. He told me about that overboot modification option but I just decided I'd rather go with some forty below purple haze overboots. I've had enough of dealing with these OR ones... If anyone wants a brand new set of XXL brooks rangers (OR sent new ones), I'll hook you up. Thanks for the good luck.. it's been a gnarly season up there so far this year... And Dane... I'm going with some good old scarpa invernos. I had some koflach artic expes but they didn't fit right so I had to sell them and bought some invernos. They fit pretty well and I think they should do the trick.
  18. Hey guys, I leave for Denali in two weeks and my overboot situation is driving me insane. I originally bought some grivel g12 hybrid crampons and got some OR brooks ranger overboots from someone here on CC. The OR boots don't do too well with the leverlock in the heel so I decided to go to REI and get some Petzl full strap crampons. When I go to put them on the f*cking strap isn't long enough to handle my boot plus overboot. Now I'm thinking I should get some 40 below overboots... Do you think petzl would send me some sort of longer crampon strap? Should I just rig up my own strap system with some webbing? This is driving me nuts..
  19. Try the mountain hardwear stretch gaiters. They're sweet and they look awesome.
  20. My Koflach Arctics are a size 12... What kinda deals chu got?
  21. I'm not sure that I'm 100% feeling the liners that came with my Koflach Arctic Expe boots.... They're a bit bulky/heavy and I wish I could custom mold them to my feet. For anyone who has experience with Intuition liners.. Are they less bulky/lighter/warmer/more comfy/ etc? Are they worth the money?
  22. Same here. Buying at REI can be pricey and their selection (in my location) sucks in terms of specialized climbing/mountaineering gear...BUT! Their return policy cannot be beat. Why don't they sell double boots anymore besides the Inverno? WHYY!?
  23. Reminds me of acute-mountain-sickness...
  24. http://www.alaskadispatch.com/article/park-service-dead-mount-mckinley-climber-switzerland This is really sad news...May seems like a brutal month on the mountain in terms of weather. Lets be safe on Denali this year, boys.
  25. check it out...
