I have the REI switchback gloves and I've used them snowboarding as well as on my climbs up Mt. Shasta and Mt. Rainier. I'm planning on bringing them along with me to Denali in June along with some Mountain Hardwear absolute zero mitts. The switchback gloves are plenty warm and I have enough dexterity to do most anything that I need to. Fleece liners are removable and the outer shell is the REI elements 2 layer (waterproof breathable blah blah) material. They're cheap too! Check them out.

I'll definitely check out that book... Did a little research.. Looks sweet!!

I think he was referring to the climate (wet side/dry side separated by high mountains) more than anything. I can feel that.. I wonder if New Zealand has exceptionally good looking ladies or even better, good looking climber ladies. That would seal the deal!

That sounds awesome. I'd like to learn more about technical climbing soon but I'm heading to the West Butt of Denali in a few weeks for my first attempt.. Totally cleared out my college student savings account. Where are some good places to learn/try some more technical climbing in the Cascades? Liberty Ridge on Rainier a good place to start?

Single sock with Koflach Arctic Expe for Denali?
TheNumberNine replied to TheNumberNine's topic in Climber's Board
Did a 7 mile hike on trails in the boots yesterday.. I wore a single light weight hiking sock and my feet aren't mangled. I think it's a good sign! -
How would you rate it in terms of technicality? Two tools? Frontpointing? What time of year?

HAHA! Is he a Washington elitist or is New Zealand not worth the trip? Seems like a sweet place to visit.. Might as well climb while you're there..

Who has an itch to one day climb these sweet peaks in New Zealand? Who already has? Was it as bad ass or what?

Hi guys, I bought some used OR overboots for Denali.. They came with insulation around the sides but there's no insulation in the sole, I'm assuming the owner took out the sole insulating pads. I'm using them with Koflach Arctic Expe boots. Do I really need insulation in the sole? If so, can I buy any sort of foam insulating material from the hardware store that I could cut to fit that would insulate enough? Thanks.

Are they the first ascent igniter pants?

Brand New 2011 Koflach Arctic Expe Boots Sz 12US

It's a good deal, man!! -
Took these guys out of the box and wore them around the house... They don't fit me quite right... Think I need to half size up. They're BRAND NEW... Tags still on and all that good stuff. I'm pretty peeved that they don't fit because they're badass boots. Anyway.. I need the money for boots that fit me. I'll let them go for $200 (Quick sale anyone? More than half off) Pictures... http://cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showgallery.php?ppuser=21588&username=thenumbernine Thanks

Anyone have anything from mountain hardwear or first ascent in the 32 inch waist 30 inseam range? Thanks.

I'm actually a snowboarder. I've been looking into split-boards but I decided that this winter I'm just going to bite the bullet and learn how to ski... Unfortunately that will be after my Denali expedition so I suppose I'll just have to suffer through the snail's pace

Single sock with Koflach Arctic Expe for Denali?
TheNumberNine replied to TheNumberNine's topic in Climber's Board
I've been wearing the boots around the house and they're starting to feel better. What actually made a big difference was putting my heel inserts that I wear in my converses in there. Somehow they seem to fit like a glove now.... Weird! -
I weigh about 165 + pack (60-70 lbs) thoughts? Would 28"x 8" snowshoes work?

Single sock with Koflach Arctic Expe for Denali?
TheNumberNine replied to TheNumberNine's topic in Climber's Board
They're comfortably snug at this point. I can kick stairs and not have my toes hit the front and I can wiggle them but there isn't a ton of room. Since they're brand new boots do you guys think the liners might pack out a little bit and maybe get a little roomier if I hike around a bit with them? -
Hey guys. Just wanted to see what some of you thought of using a single wool sock with the Koflach Artic Expe for Denali. I just got my hands on some boots and I can't tell if I should use a single sock or a sock with a liner yet. The boots fit comfortably snug with the heavy + liner socks but I'm wondering with foot swell if they'll get too tight. They're also brand spankin' new so I think the liners might pack out a little bit. Would my feet be warm enough with a single sock + overboots higher up? What sock arrangements work well for you? Thoughts, comments, criticisms, and laughs welcome. Thanks peoples.

It's on the required gear list (I'm going guided)
