  1. "anyways I was wondering why you were carrying a 65lb pack?" Ya I agree. Let the crushing commence. Most people can probably get under 40 #.
  2. And just to chime in with my biased opinion, I think cycling is an incredible way to train for climbing. I've used cycling to train for everything from half ironman triathlons to marathons and climbs. It really is great because it is low impact.
  3. If anything I'd substitute the intensity training for endurance 2-3 hour aerobic workouts.
  4. http://www.steepandcheap.com/ 6 minutes
  5. "i'd be very interested to know this..." Me too!
  6. snell- Short of an altitude tent and extending your intensity cardio intervals I think you got it covered.
  7. Did you know the answer to this question when you asked it? (just wondering)
  8. The Mighty Tooth! Correct. That is with a triple circumnavigation with simultaneous ascents and decents.
  9. Personally I like to over-train. So I want to make Rainier not just possible but pleasant. Better to suffer now than later in my book.
  10. pm sent.
  11. Ramone Rock- at Stevens pass. ~5.8.
  12. Medicsandy- Why are you even on this site? You live in Ohio.
  13. Birddog- "And oh yes sunmmitchaser - medicsandy was inquiring about Muir not a climbing permit as link shows." Read this except from the link- "40% of all camping slots are held aside for those who come to the mountain without reservations." That link directly addressed the question about needing camping reservations.
  14. I don't know why you wouldn't just check the national park website. But different strokes for different folks.
  15. "I attempted another steeper route up the NE face of Wheeler Pk in Nevada - lost 3 ropes" Epic.
  16. See This: http://www.nps.gov/mora/planyourvisit/climbing-reservation-faqs.htm You know, this is what google is for. I found it in a couple seconds of looking.
  17. You don't need one per se. But about 60% of the slots are reserved and the other 40% are first come, first serve.
  18. "someone forget water?" Nope. She's dunking her head.
  19. Trip: Index- - Godzilla, Sickle, Ect. Date: 3/4/2010 Trip Report: A sunny day, above freezing, and we had Index to ourselves. We couldn't believe it. I kept waiting for another car to roll into the parking lot. But it never happened. Ellen, Todd and I headed out to Index for a little climbing. We got there pretty early (before 9 am). I started out by leading Godzilla clean for the first time in a while. Definitely always a rewarding experience. Ellen had a good time doing it for the first time ever and Todd cruised it. We headed over to GNS and I soloed up to below the lizard undercling while Todd and Ellen came up the usual way. We then headed up that 5.7 crack to the top. We had to get back early so we got out of there pretty quickly after a compulsory head dunk in the river. Good times had by all. Approach Notes: Don't forget the apple juice.
  20. Chopped in 5 places? What routes are you climbing? I've had a rope get chopped on a sketchy descent off of Icicle buttress.
  21. I agree. Love me some Index.
  22. I don't see anything about only wanting older photos in the first post. Thanks for clarifying.
