  1. That's a great point, and worth considering.
  2. If I were you and had to pick just one, it'd be the Mammut Serenity or Revelation. But, if you can find a deal on an Edelweiss etc., go for it with confidence. The 8mm double can be a great choice too, as noted above; I've used a single 8 with success for alpine climbing.
  3. For occasional use I really like the ID micro bivy in eVent. It breathes WAY better than any other W/B on the market and comes in @ a pound. For strictly emergency use, Mammut/Ajungilak makes a pretty cool internally reflective non-breathable one. If I'm gonna haul two pounds or more of bivy sack around I'd rather take my Terra Nova Laser Competition and be a whole lot comfortable for 35 ounces.
  4. I've had a heck of a time with the jet boil in the cold (sub @ 20 degrees). If it wasn't so convenient it wouldn't ever make my kit over much light canister options. The low psi that the reactor can run at makes a pretty good difference for cold weather use (compared to the jet boil that is), but it's just plain heavy/bulky.
  5. X-zoom also weighs half as much. My buddies all use it for night skiing as well.
  6. I used to used the OR Arete glove, which seems pretty similar to what you are describing. They were a pretty decent glove for the price ($75-ish?), but anymore I can't justify OR gloves over Rab's. Rab's fit me better, use eVent, and are significantly cheaper. This is my current cold weather ice glove... Rab Latok Glove I also carry either a belay mitten or light windpro glove as a backup depending on the conditions and objectives. A couple of pairs of light windpro or powerstretch gloves with an overmitt shell has worked for me too, but I prefer my current set up for most applications. Finding a glove system that I really like has been (and still is) a difficult and ongoing process.
  7. Awesome photos, thanks much for posting them!
  8. Yup...not a lot of spectating going on up there on the comp day(s). Condolences to friends and family.
