  1. a most frustrating climbing season.
  2. Great tr. and...congrats!
  3. glad you had good luck with the weather!
  4. Beautiful.. a trip of this nature is definitely on my to-do-someday list. Thanks for the inspiration!
  5. pasta, basil pesto, parmesan. A few fresh veggies (peppers, broccoli) are awesome if you want to carry the extra weight.
  6. thanks for the pic.
  7. Initially I was going to bring 15/day + breakfast and dinner, but at the last minute replaced the power bars with tortillas and peanut butter. I have added tortillas to my list of 10 essentials - you could fill a cookbook with the various combinations of wraps you can make with your rations! Additionally, a stack of tortillas provides a great seat at a rest stop, a comphy pillow, and they efficiently slide down the sides of the pack to fill those annoying voids. I have yet to try their functionality as a glissade pad.... Tortillas=food of the gods!!!
  8. I was at UW for a year before I transferred (it's a bad situation in that music dept).. but yeah, being slightly sore or injured makes it less motivating to put in lots of hours of practice. And going to recitals for free food=Dirtbag points.
  9. [quote=high_on_rock With that in mind, it seems that there are so many of you out there with far too much money. If you each put up $50 per month, we could sponsor a bunch of folks to go out dirtbagging and post us their adventures. Think about the latest road trip by Teleross, WOW I enjoyed the posts. Imagine if we had about 5-6 folks out there each experiencing their youthful adventures and sharing them with us. What a beautiful thing. Anyone interested? Yeah, but if they're TRUE dirtbags, they don't need our help!
  10. Pred, looks like an amazing trip! Mitch sent me some photos. I climbed Baker in a whiteout that same weekend..not quite as spectacular!
  11. Nice work, Steph--beautiful and classic! And, as always, great photos. Have fun in the Pickets. The weather is looking a bit sketchier, but I hope it works out!!
  12. Sitting on the couch at my house, next to mythosgrl. Yeah, we're cool!

    Last weekend

Got rained off of Lexington. Returned to the car and it had cleared up.
  14. I think we should have a dirtbag contest on CC.com! Stage I: Collectively, let's decide: what constitutes a dirtbag? To me, it is a mixture of resourcefulness, thrift, and, well, dirt. To determine who CC's biggest dirtbags are, we need a point system. Submit your ideas. I'll choose some of my favorites, and then we'll start round II, which will consist of nominations, scoring, and then the winners. examples: score your ideas from 1-10. -1 pt: eating expired power bars that you got for 10 cents at the grocery liquidation store. -1 pt: for every PBR consumed after a climb, on average. -1/2 pt: for every piece of duct tape holding together your clothing. -10 pts: driving a camper Volkswagen van. ready, set, go!
  15. I've always wanted to do the Ptarmigan traverse.. would be interested to hear how your deproach goes.
  16. Wow, way to go, you two! Looks like an incredible, beautiful place.
  17. ick! That's two of us maimed in one weekend. Say, I think you're using my trad rack more than I am. Glad it's getting used instead of sitting in the closet, though..
  18. He prescribed some tobramycin drops and I'm going back on Wednesday. Actually my eye is much better already--the pain is gone, and there's no more redness. I did have a small cold this week, which might be a part of it. Also, I was without sunglasses from midnight to about 9 AM, so there was definitely a window of UV and wind exposure. Ironically, I also carry 2 pairs of sunglasses, the one extra item I'll allow myself to pack on glacier trips like this.
  19. Thanks for responding; if it's happened to more than one person it's not quite as freaky.
  20. Ok, so I climbed Baker this weekend, in howling winds and a whiteout. Knowing from experience that UV rays still penetrate whiteouts, I put on sunscreen and sunglasses a few hours after sunrise. My skin did not get sunburned, nor did I feel a headache or eye strain during the time when I didn't have the sunglasses on. Nobody else in the party wore sunglasses, and I don't think they had problems. The night before, my left eye felt scratchy. When I got to the car, it was watering, red, light-sensitive, and achy. The other eye was fine. I was so miserable that I went to the eye doctor first thing this morning. He ran some tests and couldn't tell me exactly what it was, only that there were no scratches or infections. He thought it was some sort of UV reaction. Has anyone here gotten snow blindness? In one eye? Is that even possible, or was I just really unlucky?
  21. some compromise between cascade pass and the Eldorado approach trail would please me..
  22. condolences to family, friends, and his climbing partner.
