I've thought of that myself, especially on really hot days! But that water is going pretty fast..

Sleep is essential. One thing I tried last winter when I was over-scheduled and burnt out was following a strict sleep/wake schedule. I made a resolution to be in bed by 10:30 and up at 6:30. Not easy (especially as a college student living in a house with a bunch of people), but paid off immensely. I kept it up for the entire winter quarter, and I think it allowed me to keep a healthy balance and not get burned out.

Third time might be the charm for you and the Pickets (and for me and Shuksan). This summer is cursed for weather! Steph, we need to go to Wyoming to escape this North Cascades rain. (check your email for more on that) -
a most frustrating climbing season.

pasta, basil pesto, parmesan. A few fresh veggies (peppers, broccoli) are awesome if you want to carry the extra weight.

Initially I was going to bring 15/day + breakfast and dinner, but at the last minute replaced the power bars with tortillas and peanut butter. I have added tortillas to my list of 10 essentials - you could fill a cookbook with the various combinations of wraps you can make with your rations! Additionally, a stack of tortillas provides a great seat at a rest stop, a comphy pillow, and they efficiently slide down the sides of the pack to fill those annoying voids. I have yet to try their functionality as a glissade pad.... Tortillas=food of the gods!!! -
I was at UW for a year before I transferred (it's a bad situation in that music dept).. but yeah, being slightly sore or injured makes it less motivating to put in lots of hours of practice. And going to recitals for free food=Dirtbag points.

[quote=high_on_rock With that in mind, it seems that there are so many of you out there with far too much money. If you each put up $50 per month, we could sponsor a bunch of folks to go out dirtbagging and post us their adventures. Think about the latest road trip by Teleross, WOW I enjoyed the posts. Imagine if we had about 5-6 folks out there each experiencing their youthful adventures and sharing them with us. What a beautiful thing. Anyone interested? Yeah, but if they're TRUE dirtbags, they don't need our help!

Nice work, Steph--beautiful and classic! And, as always, great photos. Have fun in the Pickets. The weather is looking a bit sketchier, but I hope it works out!! -

I think we should have a dirtbag contest on CC.com! Stage I: Collectively, let's decide: what constitutes a dirtbag? To me, it is a mixture of resourcefulness, thrift, and, well, dirt. To determine who CC's biggest dirtbags are, we need a point system. Submit your ideas. I'll choose some of my favorites, and then we'll start round II, which will consist of nominations, scoring, and then the winners. examples: score your ideas from 1-10. -1 pt: eating expired power bars that you got for 10 cents at the grocery liquidation store. -1 pt: for every PBR consumed after a climb, on average. -1/2 pt: for every piece of duct tape holding together your clothing. -10 pts: driving a camper Volkswagen van. ready, set, go!

ick! That's two of us maimed in one weekend. Say, I think you're using my trad rack more than I am. Glad it's getting used instead of sitting in the closet, though..

He prescribed some tobramycin drops and I'm going back on Wednesday. Actually my eye is much better already--the pain is gone, and there's no more redness. I did have a small cold this week, which might be a part of it. Also, I was without sunglasses from midnight to about 9 AM, so there was definitely a window of UV and wind exposure. Ironically, I also carry 2 pairs of sunglasses, the one extra item I'll allow myself to pack on glacier trips like this.
