Instead of telling me why my candidate is wrong....why dont you tell me who to vote for that will do something different than the status quo. LOTS of people will do different than the status quo. Do you know who Goodspaceguy is? Are you familiar with the various Socialist Party candidates? Are you familiar with the Prohibition Party? Pick any of them, they're all extremely different than the status quo. I didn't realize your main priority was that they are different. That must make things simple.

I don't remember congress declaring war on anyone. So really we are occupying. At the very least get that straight. And yes there is no end in sight and it is very much a tragedy. it has nothing to do with singular, it has to do with context and verb moods -- i.e. subjunctive vs. indicative verbs, etc. In this case, "were" would be the subjunctive mood of the verb "to be" and is appropriate for cases in which you are referring to something that's not likely to be true, reminiscing, etc. I.E. "I wish I were a rich man" vs "Yesterday, I was rich" -- "was" is the indicative mood of the verb and is appropriate for things that are true, or likely to be true in hypothetical situations. Doesn't anybody know English anymore??? Now, if teaching a class on spanking is something you are likely to do, then perhaps "was" is appropriate

Why bring a 22cm for top-roping if anything over 13cm is just as good? And if there IS a difference, why reserve your strongest screw (22cm) for top-rope duties, where the actual strength requirements are minimal, and use smaller screws for leading, where the strength requirements are much higher? Is that to prevent melt-out?

This thread makes me laugh. I've got some crappy northface rain shell that I bought for like $5 or something in the REI basement like 8 years ago that has worked just as well as those fancy dead bird jackets my friends buy for $500 or whatever. True, I'm not doing first ascents in Alaska or anything, but I'm guessing most of you aren't, either. I dunno, I have a lot of cheap crap and I've just never noticed that it got in the way. But I was never a super alpinist or anything, and maybe I would have been if I had nicer things. that said, my Feathered Friends jacket is the best money I've ever spent. Of course, even that was still cheaper than arc'teryx.
