  1. I'm not sure if this post is in the correct forum or not. My apologies, if not. And, perhaps this has been raised before. While I know we don't have the numbers like in the Puget Sound area, there should be enough of us PDX climbers to grab a beer from time to time. Thoughts?
  2. I got a sweet Jansport Moon Dog Snowboarding pack for $36. 2 gear loops, and you pack your board vertically or horizontally. 33 liter capacity, and hydration compatible!
  3. Who cares about winning.....I care about surviving!!!
  4. Sorry to hear the result. Not surprised that the Bowling Alley had snow and ice. We ran into similar crap on the north side - summit pitch of Jeff. Fortunately, we were still able to make it through. Thanks for the picture.
  5. Climb: Mt. Jefferson-South Ridge Date of Climb: 9/30/2006 Trip Report: Kevin Matlock and I climbed Jeff this weekend. We hiked in and bivied at Shale Lake on Friday, and got up at 4:00 am for the climb. We bushwhacked to a point on the South Ridge, just north of Goat Peak and climbed up the ridge to the top. The rest of the TR is in pictures: Here is the goal - Jeff through the trees. The rock on the south ridge was absolutely solid. Great footing all the way. No choss at all. The Terrible Traverse was also solid. Lots of great holds and no exposure whatsoever! I didn't have to wait in line 20 minutes behind a group of Mazamas on the summit pitch. And the rock was not covered in snow and ice. Perhaps the glacier route would have been better. No crevasses at all. I was visibly disappointed to be back at the Red Saddle in one piece, after crossing the Traverse again. The celebratory beers back at the truck were barely drinkable! Obviously, I'm being a bit sarcastic here. Worst rock I've ever seen. I would suggest climbing earlier in the season. Gear Notes: No pads, no helmets....just balls. Just kidding, of course we had helmets!
  6. Let us know how it goes. We'll be on Jeff. North Sis is still on my list, but prolly for next year.
  7. More power to ya, Snug. Unfortunately (and this is based totally on my personal experience) I am guessing that finding someone on here that is willing to help is unlikely (except with advice). I got on here hoping to find a climbing partner or two that would be willing to share their rock experience, as I had none. I was very lucky to find someone that took me out to do some rapping practice and the like, and we've done a few technical summits since. But, I think I am in the minority. I am not trying to start any shit, but it seems that most people on here are more into ridiculing newbs and telling them to go learn before they do anything (which is sometimes needed). Anyway, I understand that most folks wanna hang out with others of the same skill level. But, imparting wisdom on those with less experience should not always take the form of "You're a puss" and "That's a stupid question."
  8. Thanks FF...just lurking, but always appreciate expert advice.
  9. IMPO, the important thing is to remember shit like this all the time. I hate to say that any thread on cc.com was right on the mark but, before all the spray, the "If I died tomorrow...." thread was alright. If you died tomorrow, would you have been satisfied with your accomplishments, would your loved ones have known that you loved them, or not? I try to remind myself every day to do something worthwhile (to me, not to everyone else) and to let my friends and family know how much they mean to me. That doesn't mean that I'm always successful, or that I wouldn't be disappointed if I died (notwithstanding the fact that I'd be dead) but it does mean that I TRY!!!!
  10. WWMD??? What Would the Mazamas Do? HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHH!!!!!!
  11. LOL....when I wanna get ripped on I go to work! I do get a lot out of Spray when, as Minx says, it's just damn entertaining! Most of the folks on here can get pretty creative. Creativity is always better than saying stuff like "STFU, you dirtbag!" My 1.5 cents.
  12. I've been up Adams quite a bit....lemme know whether you would want to camp at LC or do a car-to-car and when.
  13. LOL....no chance of getting a serious answer with this group! Let's see....I've take n Ginkgo and serious amounts of alcohol....no prob to this point!!!
  14. More idiots on Adams than about any other mountain...."It's a walkup, right?"
  15. lol...fender I'm not naming her loser!
  16. Thanks to everyone for the congrats and suggestions. As I expected, there were a few decent ideas, and a ton of humor! I gotta admit, I almost sprayed my beer through my nose when I saw Nacho! Funnier than shit! Congrats to you as well kevbone. Hope all goes well!
  17. LOL....I'm up on Adams a lot. A couple years ago, a group of us went - one guy brought a 5th of tequila, another brought margarita mix. A garbage bag and snow and we were having margaritas at Lunch Counter. I drink coffee & alcohol, and water while climbing. No worries so far, but I've only been to just above 14K. We did have an east coaster on Adams, and he made it to the false summit. I'm guessing PaulO wasn't experiencing AMS.
  18. In that case, wondering why you prefer it when the traverse is melted out. No offense, as we had planned on it about now, but the overwhelming majority of the folks I know swear to never go except when snowed over.
  19. If you die tomorrow can I have your beer?
  20. I like these posts, and I don't really think they are the embodiment of alpine elitism as they are written from one POV. But a few points occur to me: The dog route can be as much of a challenge to some as 5.thunderfuck to another, and I admire those who try either just as much. A lot of us have jobs in cubes and have been forced to join the corporate world. The pro snowboarding tour prolly isn't in my future. But, the important thing is to work to live, not live to work. My job affords me more gear! I love climbing with a partner. That's how I learn! I mean, the alternative is to join the fuckin' Mazamas! But, at times, the solitude of the hills can be quite nice solo. It depends on your angle. Putting your life in another's hands can teach you something. Taking your life in your own can as well. Elitism or not, all of us who do what we do, literally see the world from a point of view that very few get to see. The destination may give us that vantage point, but the journey show us the things inside ourselves that we may not have yet seen. And, let's face it, it is nice to hit that pub afterward!!!!
  21. I'm trying to come up with a name for our daughter. My wife is due in 4 months. I'm looking for something outdoorsy, to put forth my love for hiking, climbing, etc. Our last name is LeBre. I'm not sure ArchEnemy LeBre is feminine enough, and Minx LeBre is a little too stripper for me!
  22. What I find interesting is this - At any given time: 8 people are viewing Northern Cascades; 3 people are viewing Alpine Lakes; 1 person is viewing Newbies; 2 people are viewing Rotten (Oregon) Cascades; and, 25 people are viewing SPRAY!!!!!!

  24. I just spotted "5.humorous." That's a good one, though I'm not totally sure I follow. Maybe I could lead that!
