  1. but if such a person does exist, he would:

    1) Never even let anyone know that he was a climber.

    2) Never take the opportunity to publically remind the world that he eschewed both attention and praise by stating, over-and-over, "I climb for myself, man. For me. Not for you not the magazines - no one." Such an individual would certainly not make it a point to write letters or posts on internet sites in which he took pains to criticize the motivations of other people for letting the world know about their routes, and to remind everyone that his motivations are infinitely more pure and noble.

There are many people who do this and don't even tell about their exploits.

Mox does look like a cool mt of trashy bad rock.

More people should go there. Then the good rocks will be less crowded.

For God's fucking sake, I cannot believe the pettiness of some of you guys. You sound like a bunch of five-year-olds, putting down other boys to scramble to the top of the recess social pyramid. What the fuck?? Do you have any idea how immature and petty you sound? I can't believe these things are said with a straight face. Holy fucking shit. I'm just incredulous.

(Sorry, Mike; I needed to say that.)

  2. I would like to do a traverse of the sammamish plateau housing projects.....but I am to scared to commit to it. Fears are: Chemically topped roofs(moss-off), Shitty pre-fab lie-backs, Getting plowed down by the soccer moms in escalades, and that I might end up shopping at the gap. Any partners???

You have Issacraw down, man. That's my neighborhood.

  3. If you live in an urban area with a good library system, the library may continue to get it. For example, King County Library system allows you to get access to many subscription archives for newspapers if you access through their website and enter your library card number. You can do it from home, so you don't have to go to the library to access it.

One of these providers to the library is ProQuest http://www.proquestcompany.com/home2.shtml

Ask your local library if they have it.

(If you already had a KCLS library card number you could get in here: http://www.kcls.org/cgi-bin/ipcheck?proquest)

    That's a great idea. thumbs_up.gif

  4. Interesting, because cnn.com (no comparison, I agree), just switched from charging to view videos to providing them free. Since I don't pay for cable, I've been tempted in the past to pay to see their news videos, but now I don't have to.

Not that that helps you any, ChrisT. However, this may be a trial to see if folks are willing to pay for "premium" content. Who knows if they will be, over time.

  5. Except, maybe, that I got my very first memory stick, 1 GB, which holds a shit-bucket-load of stuff, and I'm using it right now (not that way, gutter-brain--too small--it's WAY small, tiny, and it holds, did I say, 1 GB of data??), and it has nothing to do with the weekend, because I bought it today, and everyone knows, Monday is SO not the weekend, and so, my friends, carry on. the_finger.gif

  6. another thing when a tree falls in the forest and you're there to hear it it's really really loud. i thought it was dynamite going off at first but it was the sound of a snapping stick times a thousand and then a crashing noise as it brought smller trees down and then a thud.

During the ice storm two years ago, I lived in Snohomish, surrounded by woods, and for hours after I got up that morning there were loud cracks as the trees broke under the weight of the ice and fell, and took other trees down with them. It WAS loud, and pretty amazing, having it go on all around you for 2-3 hours. There were hundreds of trees down, just in my "neck of the woods."

  7. I thought you were a girl? Post up a picture and you'll be flooded with climbing invites.

Edit: I was talking about Knotzen. I don't know what the hell Ireneo is talking about.

No, no, no--I want *meaningful* PMs. yellaf.gif

  8. "TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

    To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

    Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

    Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference."

Frost was obviously lost and tried to hide the fact with some fancy poet lingo. Discuss.
