  1. Wolf Rock is in the Rock Climbing Southwest Oregon guide and can be found by taking Hwy 20 to near Tombstone Pass and then Forest Road 15 for about 20 miles until you see the giant face ahead.
  2. The moths have been there for several years (at least 5). dont remember what type they are but not good ones.
  3. Thad is in Peru with skyclimb I believe. unless it is another thad...
  4. oh, forgot to post photos of the place. Here ya go: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=12681&sort=1&cat=all&page=1
  5. Either way, its an incredible face that just begs to be climbed. Sweetness.
  6. Does anyone know of a place to get beta on the newer routes on wolf rock? (Not in "Climbs of SW Oregon") I climbed there this weekend and was amazed at this glorious gem hidden away. If you havent heard about this place before, I highly suggest checking it out. Safe bolting on 5.10-5.11 routes under the arch created some incredible lines.
  7. Thanks Iain, and you have my most sincere condolences.
  8. That was hilarious reading about that. Maybe we can smuggle discount cams from Canadia like granny is getting discount meds.
  9. Keep strong! So sorry to hear about this.
  10. The memorial for Katie will be Thursday 11am at Nash. There will be a tree planted in her memory and a reception in the Pernot Library in Nash Hall. Katie’s parents will be there. Also Katie’s family is planning a memorial at their home in Hillsboro Saturday at 2pm. The memorial is very informal so T-Shirts and shorts are fine."
  11. Thanks AYCE, it is truly important for us to learn from these things and keep positice. Katie was one of the group who introduced me to mountaineering with a climb up St Helens on mothers day for the annual Ski St Helens In a Dress for Mother's Day. I believe she wore a pink or blue tutu for the climb. There is always some sort of craziness on that weekend but she was one of the better costumes on the mountain. Just her general antics were such a pleasure to be around. If we all could be 1/10th of what she was the world would be a better place. May her spirit be spread into each of us.
  12. She was at one time a member of OSU Mountain Club but she graduated last year and hasn't been very active in the club. Her climbing partners were just 2 close friends from school. The trip wasn't associated with Mountain CLub. She was actually just in the beginning stages of joining one of the mountain rescue organizations in Oregon. She was fully competent for that mountain's difficulty from my perspective. Shit just happens. Lets take this as a lesson on not letting our guard down until completely past the exposed sections of a climb or descent.
  13. A close friend of mine, Katie T. died on three finger jack Yesterday after a slip on gravel on one of the descent ridges and thena fall into a gully. I was wondering if there was a place where the rescue services post notices of things like this. Was anyone on the rescue who could tell me more? I am just thankful she went out doing what she loved instead of something like a car accident. RIP Katie. news article
  14. I would probably go with a heat gun instead of the oven if you are going to do it yourself. It allows you to heat it locally and not overcook the whole boot. contact your local stoner or hardware store to see where you might be able to borrow one.
  15. Raise the pints! regardless of why they cancelled it, It is nice to think that the presence of a climbing community might have had some sort of impact in keeping that away.
  16. sounds kinda hellish, but overall I am sure the views were good. That area is wonderful. how was the section that you did climb on the route
  17. you've been yankin the sausage too much man!
  18. we are going to cruise the whitewater glacier or Jeff Park, not sure yet. great photo/cool ice! when was it taken?
  19. wonderful, I am aware of the pinnacle climb, just was concerned with more of the approach and if it is snowy at all. We are planning on cruising up the 5th class rock/choss/crumbly-shit. I am guessing the rock is the same quality as the rest of the cascade volcanos? Thanks for the info and a TR is up and coming...
  20. Has anyone been up on Jeffy in the last couple weeks? What are the snow conditions like up there? Also any route suggestions for an easy or moderate route up? Any particular cautions? I am going with some friends who are reasonably experienced by haven't done Jefferson before and neither have I.

I was just learning about gear climbing and being a proficient sport climber and top roper of cracks, I moved up to the 5.10 range without a gear fall. I was quite comfortable with leading on gear and didnt think much of getting on Mantra .10a in Smith's lower basalt gorge even though the book warned of tricky gear. got up to about 20 feet and got too pumped, hollered "falling" and dropped onto a .5 cam. it blew and I decked and only broke my foot. what I landed on (I maintain this kept me from becoming a paraplegic) was my belayer who had the good sense to protect a knife edge boulder which I would have hit square in my back. I am now getting back onto the horse but a littl emore cautiously now.
  22. Here's something to keep you entertained for hours! Add: 4 parts stupidity, 1 part creativity, 2 parts entertainment, and a pinch of insanity. My personal favorite is the "Crashed Ice" segment in Episode 1 (ice skating meets roller derby) but it is all keerazy. ...Its a good thing noone on CC would ever do anything that crazy.
  23. come on T, learn how to do real climbing, not this pretend climbing shit! I expect you to free that by the end of the summer. ready, set, go.
  24. Truely, I being associated with the forest service and osu forestry, I know a lot of folks who are quite productive and yet still manage to smoke a fair bit of green. Is it really affecting their job? no. the climbing rangers need to have safety meetings too! It's what keeps them sane in the woods all year.
  25. those goats better watch out cause I'm the horny one! Rarrrrr! And what a novel idea, carrying a boom box up outer space! you swear smiffy will be any better!
