    climbing smiley

I find it ironic that there isnt an emoticon/smiley for climbing, skiing, or sheep(is little bouncy fluffy guy a sheep?) on this website. just a thought.
  2. I have the priveledge of heading to joshua tree for a while, and wanted to know a good book for the place. I am a moderate trad leader and moderate climber. I'll also be there for a spot of hiking and was wondering if there were any climbing guides which had a short hiking/trails section in them.
  3. kinda shady on the rope! "possible core shot" = no good! are the rap rings folded alum or welded steel?
  4. Boreal rubber isn't so good, but the shoes are. solution: resole with 5.10 rubber. Sportiva Muira is my first choice. good rubber, agressive toe. They will allow you to climb AT LEAST 3 grades harder than with an anasazi.
  5. Anyone have info (1st/2nd hand) on if it has actually worked? Hypothetically it is a great idea, but does it truly work?

    crag Beer

Through various trips I have come to notice that different climbing areas seem to have their own beer. Smith is the place I am most aquainted with and the sponsored beer there seems to be PBR or Old E. Do your areas have their own beer? (midwest crags dont count due to the identical nature of all beer there)
  10. (freedom of the hills, not that religious shit) for roped glacier travel a team can tie overhand knots periodically along the rope to help arrest a crevasse fall. Theoretically the rope cuts into the crevasse lip upon falling and catches on one of the knots, helping the partner/team arrest the fall. Does anyone have any input on this technique worked/didnt, pain in the ass, not worth the trouble?
  11. ok, so who'se got saws and shovels to bring out to this? think we could plan for a day in April?
  12. do the boots err on the large side or the small side? and what height/weight ar ethe skis designed for?

  17. This forum is great for those of us who dont know a lot of you; we can guess at everyone's ages based on the # of kids you've got. and congrats!
  18. if dr doug's analysis is correct, then the problem is painful but not particularly bad for you. Just pain. My gf has had a really bad case and she was informed by a doctor that it hurts, but thats it, no tearing or anything like that. I believe the pain is from the nerve rubbing against tthe muscle. And get this; it is exascerbated by sitting down. oops, jsut noticed this post is kinda old. toast, sis you ever get sciatica confirmed by a doctor? good luck with it.
  19. I am searching for an inexpensive pair of crampons. I dont need them for crazy ice climbing or anything, just for basic mountaineering in the PNW. I have leather boots with a lip on the heel for the step in thingy but there isn't a lip in front like plastics. What ya got for me?
  20. we've got a winner! It's called Flagpole Peak above echo lake and there is a nice 3rd class scramble on the left side of the wall. Know of any routes up the face? I've heard of people climbing it just dont know of any personally.
  21. have you called the fs yet about it?

    bolting laws

you shouldnt bolt in a wilderness area!!!!! "An area of wilderness is further defined to mean in this chapter an area of underdeveloped Federal land retaining its primeval character and influence, without permanent improvements or human habitation, which is protected and managed so as to preserve its natural conditions..." Emphasis on "permanent improvements". dont get me wrong, I would love to see bomber 2 bolt belays in wilderness areas but it goes against the most basic ethic that created wildernesses in the first place. Have at thee CCcommers!
