Hmm, its not that clear to me. House price = $350000 (median these days in seattle) Going rental rate = $1300 or so for a similar place. 25% tax rate. 4.0% CD rate 0.4% return on real estate. At the end of 4 years you lose about 32K from the sale. But you save around 6K by not paying rent. So net you lose 26K. However if you make the rate of return 2.0% You lose only 4500. And you break even at 5 years. If you wanna go for broke and put in a 7% return. Which we've been averaging in some areas. You break even in about 16 month. And at 3 years you will be about 40K ahead of renting.

I'll state the obvious . . . . . . Education for all its problems tends to generate open minded thinking people. People who think, naturally migrate toward a liberal perspective. Why? Such a perspective tends to be more sustainable, just, and creates a happier society.

There is a major difference between Creationism and Science. Creationism suggest that not that evloutionary theory is wrong, but wholy unknowable. Basically it says that there is a truth to the matter that cannot be known. So while it it true that we can't test "Creationist theory", we can't invalidate it either. While we can't re-produce evolution (well, the so-called "macro-evolution", a concept science does not have) we can search for evidence that refutes it. If for instance we found a modern vertebrate fossil in pre-cambrian strata, that would very strongly suggest evolutionary theory is very wrong. The thing is, we don't find that kind of evidence. Much of science cannot be tested. We've never been to the center of the earth. But most science is predictive, something creationism is not. FYI - Did you know one of the biggest, if not the biggest "Intelligent Design" think tanks is in "Enlightened" Seattle? These folks are truly scarry! http://www.discovery.org/

Personally I'd consider the American press nearly the 5th branch of the US military. How rarely do we see ANY evidence on the killing going on over there? You can be sure to see the sterile pictures of tomahawks streaming off the decks of ships safely in the Indian ocean. Or but take one picture of flag draped coffins and all hell breaks loose. We're we to have a free press I can assure you, there would be many more images of the killing going on. An I for one would welcome it! Congratulations are in order for Pulitzer. One of the few organizations to reward courageous journalism.
