which exit is that? i hit your co-op on my way north, for a gourmet shopping extravaganza. those nice people waived the $90 fee to shop there. olive/walnut/orange tapanade....sundried tomatoe infused goat cheese, and other spendy snacks....to enchance my cello listening pleasure.
  3. had to use one on a bachman; didn't want to trust it after that. retired.
  4. saturday i drove ~300k; sunday ~450k. i used to squander gas & just show up solo. now i consider who to carpool with, and i actually have to think twice on how much is the drive to exercise, or drive to adventure ratio worth.
  5. speaking of and not that Virgin is bad, but Sikoras is the place... cheers, don woops. moot point, but Virgin is HMV now. proly everyone else knew that.
  6. Right on. The Masiky CD sounds cool. Was he playing with his wife (Argerich)? Their recording of Franck is amazing. i think so. piano, right? i didn't want to impose it on eric yesterday, but i enjoyed it tremendously, in my 30 min. s/b lane at the border. Stay away from the Casals Bach Suites recording. Casals did the world a favor by breaking out of the mechanical Baroque style, but his recording, done when he was going senile, is subpar. My favorite Bach Suites recording is the older Yo-Yo Ma recording from the early '90s. Best Cello Album. Ha! I wonder what's on it. Saint-Saens's Le Cygne for sure. Bruch's Kol Nidrei? Faure's Requiem? Probably not flashy enough. Some transcribed showpieces (Flight of Bumblebee, Paganini shit, the overplayed Air on a G String)? the elgar and dvorak concertos will be a much-played disk. i was getting into it, but the CD's quality stinks! it's got to go back. i agree on the ma version of the bachs - maybe the finest disk i own for evening/quiet/cerebral. the "best of" disk actually had a decent compliation: DISC 1 1. BACHARACH: South American Getaway The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic 2. ELGAR: Cello concerto (1st movement - Adagio-moderato) London Symphony Orchestra / Jacqueline du Pré 3. FAURÉ: Sicilienne [Philharmonia Orchestra / Han-Na Chang 4. HAYDN: Cello concerto in C Academy of St Martin in the Fields / Mstislav Rostropovich 5. FALLA: Jota John Williams (Guitar) / Jacqueline du Pré 6. GERSHWIN: Prélude no 2 The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic 7. TCHAIKOVSKY: Nocturne Philharmonia Orchestra / Han-Na Chang 8. DVORÁK: Silent Woods Philharmonia Orchestra / Han-Na Chang 9. Deep River The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic 10. PIAZOLLA: Adiós Nonino 'The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic 11. MILLER: Moonlight Serenade The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic DISC 2 1. RACHMANINOV: Vocalise 'Philharmonia Orchestra / Han-Na Chang] 2. BACH: Unaccompanied Cello Suite no 1 'Ralph Kirshbaum] 3. SAINT-SAËNS: Cello concerto no 1 (3rd movement - Allegro non troppo) 'London Philharmonic Orchestra / Mstislav Rostropovich] 4. MONN: Cello concerto (3rd movement - Allegro non tanto) 'London Symphony Orchestra / Jacqueline du Pré] 5. DVORÁK: Cello concerto (1st movement - Allegro) 'London Philharmonic Orchestra / Mstislav Rostropovich] 6. BRUCH: Kol nidrei 'London Symphony Orchestra / Han-Na Chang] 7. SAINT-SAËNS: Le Cygne (The Swan) from Carnaval des animaux 'Philharmonia Orchestra / Han-Na Chang] 8. FAURê: Après un rève 'Philharmonia Orchestra / Han-Na Chang] 9. BRAHMS: Lullaby (Berceuse) 'Truls Mørk] a really good start... cheers, don
  7. heal quickly & heal well, gene! i was over there yesterday with WW, and the only incidents of gore involved a large number of roadkill on Hwy 2, I-5, and the carnage of hundreds on my windshield. oh, and the horse that was crossing on the westbound side of Hwy2 was very, very lucky!
  8. i rarely use my hammer. the last time was to beat on my starter
  9. i dropped a few quid on: Dvorak*Elgar by Casals Bach Sonatas by Maisky The Best Cello Album in the World...Ever! (cus i thought it was an easy sell & i liked the austin mini on front) India.Arie acoustic soul, and Erykah Badu tx lads. i think i picked up at least 2 culture points today
  10. i can't believe i'm gaining culture on this site! i'm off to give Virgin on Robson some $$$ at lunch. tx for the lists!
  11. dear gentle squid, that would be a nice change from the school of hard knocks! but how does one attract that when they have an inherent streak of draco
  12. oui! zat is zee one. so, was that trivial for you?
  13. hey j, aren't we supposed to do our revenge climb at that chossy 5.9 route in pemberton? we talked about it and then cc lost a day's worth of posts - r'mbr. about that clutch - i was having an interesting discussion yesterday with Modified on speed shifting. i've driven stick since i was 16 & i've never speed shifted before! sooner or later, i'll be giving it a try on the bike. he says it's way faster! could save you from claw hand? say, once you got past the boulder barrier, what did you think of that real rough patch? i did it on the quad, which was no prob., but the bike demands more skill.
  14. yeah, i was given a super brief talk on the difference in steering. road bikes lean for steering; and *dirt runners* as you say, need more handlebar action. and yes, i don't want to wear my tires out on black top. it's great! new trail adventures to be had on dreary days. although, in the monsoon month of january, i tried this tactic for mtn. biking. but those guys were mostly into the north shore technical stuff. ANY CROSS-COUNTRY MTN. BIKE RIDERS OUT THERE? i'm much more of a cruiser than a stunt performer - in any realm. maybe we can trade bikes for a session. bet you love that idea
  15. i reserve that line for when i wimp out on lead. actually, i say that a lot. you might be on to something
  16. Squid, i am in the same damn funk! 3 years ago, i was taking on a peak a week. this year - i'm just out for exercise. i think the crew has to rally around and inspire you.
  17. congrats on your 225! do you have the helmet & m2r pants to match yer bike? i scored brand spankin new m2r threads at the dump! my boss thought i was talking about some new hip place on Robson Street. but it was the dude at work who found boxes of them. they were slashed by the retailer, and i managed to knuckle down & actually do some repair work. they are beautiful!
  18. e, i haven't gone thru those spints yet. tx for bringing it up. i look forward to riding some solid surface, but the Yamaha ain't no enduro. for now, sand is giving me some soft landings, but it's also a little funky.

    Boobs!!

i used to want a bigger set of knockers, to even out my other curves. but now i think they'd just get smashed to a pulp on weekends. do her lower verterbrae look off set?
  20. d. i just don't know what to say to that
  21. i'm going to dedicate the next non-mtn day on: "brake to slow down w/ sharp turns". tx for pointing me in this interesting direction. on sunday, i doubled up b/h a good rider (but sketchy instructor) to scope out a tricky descent. It was effing rooty 'n narrow, with a hard l.turn right before you drink the Fraser. and tx for those words of clarity
  22. that hormanal business plays havoc on my balance too
  23. tx dru, i know. now there's a greater act of desparation on my part - to go to bc4x4 and find climbers to talk to!
