  1. Does any body ever wonder If big Jim Would have waited, like Barry and Lute did . I do not know him, I just wonder.
  2. Wow that hurt. Have not had a drink in 11 years and never drank much. You must be a retired therapist or guide.
  3. I am sorry but I just see you turning climbing into a game of foot ball. The best times of my life were when I climbed, trecked and was dirt poor. I made over 500 trecks and climbs and maybe ten % were special. but I would not take back any of them. My family now comes first, one son climbs like I never could. The other is scared of a six foot ladder but a good football player and snow boarder. I know you are climbers and good ones. I just do not think the Northwest warrents the climbing attention this boards it offer, and being good climbers you will think I am an old foggy full of @#%$&%$*$&&*> .Please do not take offence these are my thoughts.
  4. I am sorry I can not buy your story. I am not going to defend my mountaining skills to no one it is me that counts. There is big world of mountaining out there. Selling mugs and t- shirts does not impress me. You do it your way and stay in your little part of the world. I will venture out and experience life, Although my wife and I have slowed with our son . Good Luck. Hope you find a partner that has been as good as my wife.

    fakes

Ill Vote for any one that will get rid of these stupid climbing permits. And quit running or prescious land, like they are gods and we have to be cared for.#@$%Democrats $#@& Republicans. I know that sounds shallow with all the world events .But I can take better care of the hills than these jerks!
  6. Kind of reminds me the way I feel about Rainier. And it seems like I am the only one bothered by permits.I once had a climbing ranger chase me over 3000ft,down Mt St Helens cause I had no permit. I beat him to the 4800ft sign, that said permits required above here. I was on the other side. We had a good laugh after I refused to take him seriously. He let me go,and ask me were I learded to move so fast. I said in Alaska where the state bird will suck all your blood if your not fast.
  7. Paying people to take them up mountains, what an adventure! <note: I'm splitting off this separate discussion, in case someone wants to discuss guiding while someone else is actually interested in Restless Native.>
  8. Becouse I get out and try new things! And I do not need guns.
  9. Saw some recent snow on the upper elevations. My experience, in late summer or fall this means slick snow on hard ice if there is any. And hit and miss rock and ice fall. The shrund usally can be by passed to the west. go early if a 10,000 foot plus freezing level is called for. Have Fun. Just For Your Info Cluck I did it your way in the fall once and my partner, almost took a football size chuck of ice, Do not be so sure of your self !
  10. I enjoyed the picture you posted. I am 46 years old but have a greast respect for the early climbers in the north west. The distances and hard ships they faced just on the approach, has made me feel like a wimp at times. Reading books about the first climbs ,shows what classy people they were.
  11. Thank you sobo that was very helpful. Seems where I am from if its not Hood or Rainier no news.
  12. Any Idea of who the climbers were?Iknow several in this age group that climb in SW Washington.God bless them and their families.
  13. Funny thing a guy named Willi Unsoeld started out climbing in the three sisters. Jon Krakauers first climb was the south sister at eight years old. Must be something in those graham crackers.
  14. A friend and I climbed the klikitat glacier, then climbed the castle. This was in the in 1988, we climbed early in June. It was an early summer and dry. our biggest problem came when we left the castle to the west and hand to deal with creavases. We came down the Mazama. It was some of the most beautiful and remote climbing I have ever done. We climbed very early and delt with some hard ice. But not much falling.Interesting note on the way to bird creek meadows we had to register with an Indian ranger, he gave us a permit for five dollars.I think this is one of the underrated areas in Washington.Have fun and be safe.
  15. Try the climbers guide to the Olympic Mountains. Not knowing more about what your looking for this is my best advise. Have Fun>
  16. Thanks for the information.
  17. I would appreciate any feed back on Mt.Church. I would like to take my 8 year old on a new climb for both of us. He has done Mt. Ellinor,Mt. Angeles and Mt. St.Helens. Would this be within his experince and strength? I do not feel he is ready for Mt. Washington or the standard route up Mt.Hood.Thanks.
