  1. Well, the 4 hour window held out enticingly by the girlie never materialized (insert PW joke here). Thanks for all the info though. I will definitely check out Carver at some point. Also, if you're in P-Town, I would recommend seeing "What the Bleep Do We Know" It's an indy film playing at the Bagdad (and also in Yelm Washington). It's very funny in a New-Age-Metaphysics sort of way. Cheers
  2. we could call it bannedkamp We need NEW BANNEDKAMP FORUM I would propose a TAG TEAM BATTLECAGE DEATH MATCH with Pope n' Dwayner vs. TRASK n' CBS... fuckin' awesome. We need action figures too, so my kid can play in the back seat on the road trips to yosemite.
  3. I used to do that until I got cornholed by a rapist razor sharp rock.
  4. I use Arm Rappels sometimes. (For super slick low-angle terrain)
  5. Ooops! this isn't spray! I'll have to save my remarks for Battleground for another time.
  6. Thanks P-towners.
  7. Thanks Cluck
  8. Where do the P-towners go for a quick 3000'+ trailhike? I'll have 3-4 hours to kill down there, and no climbing partner. Also, how do you get to Carver? How's the bouldering there? Best place for a ???
  9. What would you do, DooLittle? Military intervention or Take refugees or both?
  10. This isn't so much an argument as it is an effort to redefine the word "racism" in the english language. Why would you change the definition of a word to be out of line with common usage and out of line with established dictionaries? True on the effort to redefine the word. However, I have no beef with that effort in general. Language is a living thing, we don't speak Middle English anymore, it has morphed. And we come up with new words like cyber this and cyber that to explain what hasn't existed heretofore. So, what would the new racism word be? I don't like reverse-racism, because that to me means the opposite of racism. Any suggestions? Humor most welcome. We don't speak middle english, but I think the dictionary/language changed to keep up with common usage. If you take 100 people who aren't currently enrolled in a multi-cultural awareness class, I don't think any of them will say: Prejudice + Power = Racism Why change the meaning of the word to be other than how it is used? We also invent new words to describe new things (like cyberspace) That seems more appropriate here. What about "Tyrannical Racism"? (Oh, that doesn't work, because the minority can also be Tyrannical) "Empowered Racism"? (oh, that doesn't really sound good "Empowered" has a positive ring to it) Why do we need a new word? We still call a punch a punch whether the person has the muscle to back it up or not. Both the weak and strong puncher are wrong in thier intent to injure, but the person with muscle is going to do a lot more damage. But it's still a punch.
  11. Sure, anything in the Tatoosh. Anything in Commonwealth basin would make for a good scramble for a newbie.
  12. Good call Doc Fa. I'm on the motha'
  13. Did someone need some intense spotting?

  15. "On Rappel! Mmmmkay?"
  16. OMFG. He's actually wearing gaitors. I didn't catch that. I didn't even think those were *really* mountaineers.
  17. Actually, I don't think Rainier is the best peak for a newbie, at least not a cackle of em. It's a big mountain that creates its own weather, and visibility can go to zero in a snap of a finger. I think some of the lower elevation (lower commitment) peaks like the Sulphide Glacier route on Shuksan, the Cork Screw route on Sloan, Eldorado... are beter places to figure out how to walk with crampons, sort out clothing systems and route find. I dunno, just my $0.02 I tend to agree with you there Toast. I've taken 1 fit newbie as part of a team of 6 on the Emmons, and I was pretty comfortable with that... also, I don't think I'll ever do that Emmons again. What a mind numbing slogfest! Shuksan is a good suggestion. That pyramid awesome with snow, or as a rock scramble. Eldorado too: the knife edge definitely opens the eyes of the newbie. Really scenic spot to be on the inspiration glacier too.
  18. Bug, I haven't done these. What sorts of climbs are they?
  19. Yeah, that's a fun, easy route.
  20. What are the best Alpine climbs for introducing newbies to mountaineering? I suppose the most obvious ones would be: Glacier: Rainier: Emmons, DC Baker: Coleman, Easton Glacier: Sitkum Rock: Da Toof SEWS South Arete What else??

  25. Hey Mountie, What is the fitness requirement for a basic class student?? I heard that they should be able to "hike Si in 2 hours with a 40 lbs pack". Is that correct? Do you administer a fitness test? Just curious.
