  5. Sure, I can see that too. But I can also see this: I've also been in the company of someone who died. All she asked is that I not let go of her hand. My guess is, there are many other folks on this site who have been through the same thing. Changes your opinion. Even causes you to make blanket statements. Call me bull-headed and unreasonable, but there you have it.
  6. yummmmieeee i love good packaging ideas.
  7. We require 15 pieces of flair.
  8. Then, he had an embolism and died. The end.
  9. Exactly. Letting someone who can walk ok back down the hill is understandable. Putting an ill person into a ziploc is not. That is my blanket and I am lying under it.
  10. Indeed. And no, I did not say that they did not change under force. Of course they did. But the direction of change is markedly different when the country in question is being pressured by war rather than by open market policy.
  11. That's the other perspective, and I agree with that. It is that simple. But I would never leave anyone. Ever.
  12. As long as men with Keane's and Bush's mindset keep at this, the count will reach a 100K. Can you believe Keane talks like this: Although civil war would be a tragedy, with immense costs, it would at least force a definitive outcome to the ongoing struggle in Iraq. But there are no signs of that happening at this time From his perspective, war is the only *althought regretable* method to bring about change. Never mind the the countries we've tried to force to change (via war, economic sanctions, any other coercive method) don't change in the direction that we want them to. However, the countries that we opened up trade with seem to naturally develop economically, politically, and socially.
  13. Better than losing a child or a brother.
  14. At Yos my partner and I drank a bit too much the first night we were there. We hadn't reserved a site for that evening (we got in earlier than expected) so we decided that rather than drive drunk, we'd park in the big grocery store lot. We knew we weren't supposed to, but it was about 2am and we'd be up with the sun. Actually, we were up with the flashlight. It belonged to a ranger who pounded on the VW we were in at 4am. We told him what was up. He wrote us a ticket each for illegal camping ($60 each) and told us we had to leave the park. We drove, stopped alongside the road to puke, and drove some more. At least he didn't follow up behind us to give us a dui...
  15. Care to elaborate? rmi does this. i guess that way the rest of the party still gets a chance at the summit. i don't know how they decide when it's okay to do that as opposed to turning everybody back. I don't know either, but it seems like they must not like that individual much, otherwise they wouldn't leave him. Some kind of popularity vote--sickening.
  16. Do you wish to elaborate?

  24. No. The injection of several trillion dollars into a region that was an impoverished backwater at the periphery of our conception of the muslim world substantially altered the public perception of Islam. It's hard to argue that the West didn't finance radical Islam - all of the regions revenue comes from exporting oil. bullshit
