To steal a phrase, I'd say we've 'jumped the shark'. FBI forms anti-porn squad 'I guess this means we've won the war on terror,' one agent says Barton Gellman, Washington Post Wednesday, September 21, 2005 Washington -- The FBI is joining the Bush administration's War on Porn. And it's looking for a few good agents. Last month, the bureau's Washington Field Office began recruiting for a new anti-obscenity squad. Attached to the job posting was a memo from FBI headquarters to all 56 field offices, describing the initiative as "one of the top priorities" of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and, by extension, of "the Director," Robert Mueller. The new squad will divert eight agents, a supervisor and assorted support staff to gather evidence against "manufacturers and purveyors" of pornography -- not the kind exploiting children, but the kind that depicts, and is marketed to, consenting adults. "I guess this means we've won the war on terror," said one exasperated FBI agent, speaking on condition of anonymity because poking fun at headquarters is not regarded as career-enhancing. "We must not need any more resources for espionage." Among friends and trusted colleagues, an experienced national security analyst said, "it's a running joke for us."

actually, i think my wife should be president. not being a native english speaker, she often makes bon mots such as: Sexgiving (Thanksgiving) Dick Chimney (Dick Cheney) Cooling Moose (Cunnilingus) and so on and so forth. I'd definitely listen to her speaches, if for no other reason than the entertainment value.

Looking for a high-tech recruiter in Seattle area
foraker replied to Dr_Crash's topic in Climber's Board
I should think any decent lawyer should be able to make mincemeat out of her claims to only being able to make that much money. If she's being vindictive, she's probably operating from the school of though of "well, if I ask for 99% of his income, I'll get half whereas if I ask for half, I may get 25%". if she's been working up until you moved here, her case is weaker. however, if kids are involved you will probably get boned. -
Do I sound like I keep track of your every word and deed? Does anyone? Ever?

That might be because the current administration hasn't shown itself to be a friend of the environment, despite rhetoric to the contrary. If we should trust them so much, and if it's so effective, why has BushCo been trying to gut the Clean Air Act from Day 1?

No, they already made statements to that effect weeks ago.

Dear Dubya, Please stop spending so much god-damned money. At least when the liberals did it, they taxed people to pay for it, they didn't sell our country to the communist Chinese. I used to always be able to rely on the Republicans to push for balanced budgets, at least publically. All that seems to have changed. What gives? I mean, you have all 3 branches right now, you could be axing programs left and right. Am unwilling to pay for your pork barrel Christmas for the next 50 years. Maybe while you're at it, you could stop fcuking over the parks and national forests and the environment, but, hey, I'll cut you some slack on that for a week or two. PS. Stop asking Condie for hall passes to the bathroom. Just a suggestion.

Chaps, old buddy, correct me if I'm wrong but, in your avatar there, isn't that a man's head sticking out of your vagina?

You should not buy it because it has one of those stupid retro dot-com era names. Now, if it had a successful traditional name like, say, "Walgene" or "Genes-R-Us", then I'd say go for it.

my office mate from grad school has a sciencey blog and he brought this image to my attention. basically, the lousiana delta region, post-katrina. note how the levees around NO have basically stopped sediment deposition in the proximal delta region. there's the root of your disaster right there. he said mexico has a mini-version of the same thing going on there right now but that nothing will be done about it since the local forces of real estate development want nothing more than to keep the forces of nature at bay. therefore, the local mayor also is in league with them. thus, the feds do nothing. bush may get a black eye on this, but there's plenty o blame to go around.

I love it. It's my every day....

Don't tell me you didn't get that....

Is it a discovery if we already knew about it? This was the big thing back in the late 70's early 80's. Let's see...the lead author's from RAND, not the USGS....hmmm....the timing seems a bit suspicious...hmmmm. Sounds more like: Have desired result. Create new report supporting desired result. Implement desired result. Where have I seen this before?

Interesting QT movie about NO flooding from Shuttle Radar Topography data.

Was just reading the the Alaska Permanent Fund, founded years ago by Gov. Jay Hammond, now has a value in excess of 31 billion USD. I wonder what would have happened if the Feds had done something like this. Probably a total disaster...Unlike the Norwegian government which did exactly that and I think theirs stands at almost 40 billion USD. Still, the optimist in me likes to dream.

Um, people who go over the falls don't tend to sue because, well, they're kinda dead.
