  1. The point I was driving at. Thank you.
  2. My point was simply to emphasize that with my experience you grow accustom to the sight of such an incident. Judging by the reactions posted herein I got the impression that people got freaked out. Look at it objectively. Learn from the example. I was not boasting. The gumby comment is self evident, and get over yourself. Touchy little gumby, aren’t you.
  3. It’s a sad fact ladies and gentlemen, grim as it may be, this is the ultimate reality of what we elect to do. Knowing full and well that we all take risks we need to be ready to face the possibility that one day we may be forced to confront this reality. What will you do when somebody else’s shit goes down hard, will you be mortified? Or will you detach yourself from your visceral response and respond in a cool and calculated manner. As a high angle rescue trainer / rope rescue technician and first responder, when I am in the back country I am constantly on the lookout for Gumby’s. Fingers crossed in the hopes that my trip isn’t soiled by someone else’s misfortune. Be safe y’all.
  4. Im psyched! However April 7th isn't that early but I'll take it. Take a look at the opening dates for the last thirty years, mid April is the most common. See ya'll out there.
  5. Man is the best computer we can put aboard a spacecraft and the only one that can be mass produced with unskilled labor. -- Wernher von Braun
  6. Thank you.
  7. Careful, that shit comes off quick. I don’t know about the flake in question but I did pull of the prominent flake on the town crier about five years ago. It was the size of a door about three and a half feet wide, six feet tall and about four inches thick. My feeling is if it is a well traveled route and it is in question it should be cleaned.
  8. Refer to previous post.
  9. None. If they have teeth like the petzl ascention they are very dangerous for use as a self belay. The teeth on the petzls are reported to sever a rope at around a thousand pounds of force.
  10. All I can say is I feel your pain. Twice now, once in P-town ($4000) and again in Seattle ($2500). The best way I have found to deter the little bastards is to ride a stout well tuned beater for cite commuting and save the high end bike for trail or road riding. If you go with a new bike chip the paint, sticker the shit out of it, remove any trace of a brand name. And use at least two different kinds of locks. I use a "U" lock and a cable lock. Good luck.
  11. Comfort the lame. I think I'm going to cry.
  12. Mostly olympics and southern cascades stuff. www.extrapolation.com
  13. Looking at the thin red line as an early season solo objective. As soon as the pass opens (should be early this year). Has anyone done it solo? Wanted to do it in winter but Im way to lazy to hump in any further than I have to.
  14. Not a winter photo but what the hell. There is your bloody summit.
