I have a pair and love them. perfect for moderate snow routes, good for approach. i loosen them up for the descent once im back on the trail or safer terrain. make sure you wax them up good. they have heel and toe bails for heel and toe bail crampons. stiff sole is nice on steep ice/snow.

there was a nice snow cave built next to the locked door a couple of years ago. room for 4 or 5, shelves and flat floor. i took a nap in there on the way up.

try spelling yokum as yocum... it normally sees a few ascents a year as long it comes into condition. there are probably years no one makes it up that route

I was wondering the same thing. I couldn't reach anyone at the ranger station but here is the road info from 1/04/05. I know that you could make it a half mile or more past Morrison creek last week. The snowmobilers have been breaking trail up that road. Road 8040 South Climb Gravel - One Lane 01/04/2005: Snow from Morrison up. http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/recreation/current-conditions/roads.shtml Mt. Adams Ranger District 2455 Hwy 141 Trout Lake, WA 98650 (509) 395-3400 TTY: (360) 891-5003

and make sure you are not parked in the middle of the road. the county mounties like to tow people even when the road is blocked. -
Thanks for all the info. The Ecrin Roc is looking better and better. I really want something that go over a warm hat or be used in 100 degree heat at Smith (although I hear it's not cool to wear a helmet at Smith). Thanks again.
