  1. sweet powder on Hidden lakes. crazy huge avalanche debris down in the gulley probably from last weekend. and to the other guys who we broke all the trail for, you're welcome.
  2. from accessfund.org Tieton River - Oakcreek Wildlife Recreation Area. Royal Columns & Tim Pond Wall. Restriction runs from Feb. 1 through July 31. Contact: John Mcgowan - Area Manager Tel: 509.653.2390. so only royal columns are closed. as far as i know everything else in the canyon is open.
  3. Here is the story from avalanche.org http://www.avalanche.org/av-reports/proc-show.php3?OID=10898773 . apparently he fell into a riverbed/hole.
  4. Thanks for the info. i will have to head over there soon.
  5. i was over at vantage this weekend and talked to jim yoder. in addition to saying he is coming out with a new guide book for the tieton, sometime this summer, he told us there were some 8 pitch climbs. he also mention a web site, something like cascadeimages.com where you could find some topos of the climb. i could not find it, anyone want to help me out? Thanks
  6. What about snoqualmie?? the central summit area has so much variety with that one giant slope. you can hit the left, right or right down the center. sure those other areas have more terrain but you can't beat the thrill of not knowing whether some boarder is going to knock you out at any second. and with all that annoying powder packed down it should be great
  7. at the bottom of the bear claws i cam upon a skier breaking trail in the flats. for some reason he had chosen to take off his skis and walk. he was right next to a tree and was almost neck deep, i thought i was going to have to rescue him but he managed his way out.
  8. deep deep deep powder powder powder incredible, i am worked though. a couple of times i came into the flats and had to break trail, waist deep. not to mention all the blind turns i was making
  9. http://www.jacksonholenews.com/Archives/SportsArchive/2003/030305-Sports.html Check out this story if you are thinking you are going to win this race. i am guessing this group will be out from Jackson for this race as well.
  10. You booted up to the Tatoosh? what about skins, AT gear and such? If you are only walking no wonder you don't like it here. I have not skied in the olympics but you should try the north cascades. or just stick to the ski areas, last thing we need is more people out there.
  11. hey mtn-mouse, try getting into the backcountry. I have had good skiing the last two weeks. maybe you should go to colorado and run into some other idiots, that sounds more like your style. This is the land of ski mountaineering, wimps who want super easy approaches and perfect conditions top to bottom will miss out on the real beauty of the cascades, incredible mountains and freedom from the hoards.
  12. very nice, maybe in a couple weeks i'll get around to develping mine.
  13. Blame the owner not the dog. well trained dogs are great, but the out of control ones can be a real pain. also there is nothing for the dog to do but just sit there. if you want to have a good time with your dog take it for a walk.
  14. is that you trask? you might be ready for the x games with those kind of extreme moves. jumps in the lowlands, good - high marking in the high alpine, bad
  15. Snowmobiles suck. even when you are riding on them they are noisy and foul smelling. every time i see one out in the backcountry i hope they break down and the lazy ass owner has to walk all the way back to their car so they can see how far it is and how annoying it is to see other snowmobiles cruising by them. let them stick to the lowlands. check out the statistics this season on avalanche fatalities on avalanche.org and you can see that many of the incidents involve snowmobiles, and very few of them have safety equipment or avalanche training. something about riding a machine makes you forget your sensibilities.
  16. i was in the backcountry as well, and i doubt i would have won any prizes. here is the link www.life-link.com/race.htm
  17. went to arrowhead. the snow was great, nice fluffy powder. the temps were nice and cold. whoever broke the skin track up high must be in love with switchbacks, they put one in about every 20ft.
  18. i was actually ragging on exit 38 and just looking for some info about fossil. the descriptions don't sound to enticing but that picture looks good, i just may have to make the trip.
  19. Is fossil rocks really worth it? or is it worth it like exit 38, somewhere you go when you don't have time to go anywhere good?
  20. Drive a little farther and go to Index, it will make you strong.
  21. Go Cabin! the snow camping is great when you are getting way out there, but if you're going to have a party why not have a fire and some chairs and a keg and lots of food. besides, i only carry in whiskey.

    New forum?

i am all for the ski forum. anyone want to start right now and tell me where the good skiing is to be found this weekend?
  23. It was all worth it for those sweet turns up at the top. not really but it was fun to get out. another example of shitty, when the crusty snow breaks through unexpectedly and you fall into a bush and bruise your leg. If it had been a deep puncture that might have been shitty -.
