  1. When we climbed the ledges last February, there was lots of unconsolidated snow on the Cowlitz and we were concerned about avy danger, not to mention that we were postholing. We went around the problem by ascending Cowlitz Cleaver and going behind the Beehive then rapping down a short step. It worked out pretty well, although it was more time consuming.
  2. Marek, are you planning any more winter climbs on Rainier this year? How about Nisqually Icefall?
  3. Marylou, the big difference between you and the other women of cc.com and the men for that matter is you frequently make imperative statements telling others what you think they should do. Guys like Cavey use the word "I" as in "this is what I believe" or "this is what I do", but they don't constantly go around telling people you should do this or you should do that. That's why he is repected and...
  4. If you were willing to ski the road from Troublesome Creek, Goblin Peak might be a more doable winter scramble. It's over 10 miles, though.
  5. That would put him in company with Dustin_B in the Deep South of Authoritarian Land.
  6. Is it a surprise to anyone that an Authoritarian would be a hard core Bush supporter?
  7. No surprises here.
  8. For those of you unfamiliar with oscillococcinum, it is a form of homeopathy. Good luck Sisu, I'll go with clinically proven therapies, thank you.
  9. Classic.
  10. Even der klenkmeister has fallen prey.
  11. I hear that those who have gotten flu shots are getting sick too. Say your prayers. "Take Drugs"- There are drugs such as Relenza, Tamiflu, and rimantidine that are effective at lessening flu symptoms and duration once you are infected. I took one of these a few years ago, 24 hours into the flu and I was skiing three days later.
  12. I never said that dioxins did not come from natural sources. I am sure they do, but I still maintain that the primary source is from human sources. Wood burning is the third-largest source in the US. The other issue is that there is not one dioxin, but many. Some are more toxic than others. The most widely studied and most toxic one is 2,3,7,8-TCDD. This particular one is the one found in Agent Orange. It is a byproduct of the synthesis of 2,4,5 T.
  13. Almost like divine retribution in a Greek tragedy.
  14. It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world.
  15. "How hard is to too hard to work to take care of someone you love? How many jobs are too many and how hard would you look for a job that offers health care benefits if health care is what is needed for a family member? What is too big a sacrifice to pay for medication if that is what is needed? Certainly giving up all luxuries and vices is not too much to ask. " How hard? Very hard. People with severe mental illness and/or substance abuse can literally tear families apart. All too often, the person is turned out in order to save what's left of the family.
  16. Here lies Stanley, done in by a three pound barbel. RIP
  17. Wouldn't those Hooters girls have a hard time turning around in those narrow isles?
  18. Rabbit-humping power grab. That's what it is.
  19. Nuclear power is the cleanest most cost-efficient energy source there is. The Germans are idiots for abandoning plants that have many years of useful life left. When you decommision a plant you have to deal with waste disposal whether you do it now or later. But by waiting until the plant has operated for it's normal 30-40 year life span, at least you've gotten your money's worth out of it.
  20. He sure is and a heck of a climber too.
  21. Cracked, do you realize just how incredibly difficult it is to get admitted to a long term psychiatric facility if you don't have a lot of money. A friend of mine struggled for years to get his son admitted. Sounds like all you know about the subject you learned from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
  22. Bully for you, trask. Well said, by a true patriot. Look at Guantanamo Bay. Those foreign prisoners don't have legal representation, due process, a speedy trial or anything. I don't care if they are not US citizens. If we think we are trying to set an example for the rest of the world, we're doing a piss poor job of it.
  23. First of all we have no clue what mental disease this guy had, if any. But there are many thousands of schitzophrenics who live their lives without killing other people. This guy was 38 years old. If he were a schitzophrenic he would have been living with it for years. Yet apparently he was able to function in life. You don't become a martial arts expert with severe mental disease. What makes people "snap"? Or do they? I think in most cases people should have seen it coming and might have done something to prevent it.
  24. You're damn right. You can't execute a person who has "emotional problems". "My brother was a wonderful person; he just had some emotional problems that we're still trying to sort out," Nicole Forbes said.
