Congratulations, Martin, I'll have to take that one off the list...
-
Josh and co.- Thanks for the steps. They made the rabbit ears really easy. That's a great ski.

Yes, yes, I meant the Easton. Emmons, Easton, one day glacier slogs... They blur together. Coleman Deming gets pretty crowded, too. I'd recommend Boulder-Park Cleaver. It's a little longer, but absolutely crevasse free up to 9,000 feet. No crowds there.
-
We climbed the Emmons and skied the Squak for a round-trip time of nine hours from the car last September. That was neither slacking nor sprinting.
-
Who the hell said anything about not skiing this weekend? This is just the one week I can't bag a Friday.
-
Now that's rich. I'm really busy with school this week, and I think Jason might have a little payback up his sleeve. At least I can study physics outside.
-
I climbed the Park HW almost three weeks ago. The cornice was easy to surmount by kicking two steps. The hardest part is getting around the 'schrunds. Skiing is the way to go. If you like steeps with a little exposure, the Park HW is smokin'.

So where is this Eldorado in eastern Washington in the Enchantments? How does it compare to the Eldorado near Cascade Pass?
-
I did it by moonlight last night. I downclimbed the rappel with a whippet in one hand and a paperclip in the other. I don't know why all these people keep climbing it, it just wasn't that great. I prefer more objective hazards, like falling seracs, rockfall, sketchy bridges, and rabid snafflehounds. There was a bit of water ice that made for a few refreshing turns.

55 might not be too bad with the right kind of snow. Nothing steep seems as scary with powder, but then the avalanche factor can be pretty creepy.
-
My adjective would be alarming.

The point wasn't their durability, but rather the finagling sometimes requires to properly set the boot in the binding.
-
I think they just had ice in those little holes near the toes of their boots, and maybe they weren't excavating it as efficiently as possible. I sure wouldn't want to have to deal with that on some icy, steep, exposed slope. Actually, maybe that would be fun.
-
The best way to set the DIN is just to keep turning the screwdriver clockwise until it won't turn any more. I learned that trick from this old guy, and my bindings have never released when I wouldn't have wanted them to release. Man, sometimes old people know what they're talking about. Oh yeah, Scott, why didn't you have a screwdriver with you? I always carry one, it's definitely one of the top 487 essentials. How else are you gonna steal a car when you get lost in the woods and hike out to some road with 30 miles to go to nowhere?
-
I would be willing to just climb, if you hate skis. I could even change plans and wait until the bars close to leave. Maybe even later, but that really wouldn't seem right.
-
Anyone up for an epic ski descent tomorrow? I'm all packed and ready to leave, but I lost my partner. Let me know if you want to leave soon on an all-nighter. I just couldn't let it go that easily. PM me.
-
The whole thing was skiable, but look out... I lost a good chunk of base next to an edge on a shallow rock that was not visible.
-
But the skiing was great! We enjoyed the boot pack from the top of Cascadian Couloir yesterday. Thank you very much.
-
My bad, you're probably right about the lottery, but would it ever matter on a weekday? Yeah, that guy behind the counter WAS big. He was nice, though. That change must have been very recent.

By The Man, I meant the bureaucratic structure in place to ticket people who neglect permits, and whatever enforcement might ensue with further negligence to pay. In that sense, I believe The Man is the concern.
-
There is ample snow to ski to and from Climber's Bivouac. They save half the permits for sale upon the day, just show up at Jack's Restaurant in Cougar early in the morning (if you want to cooperate with The Man).
-
I think Liberty Ridge was first skied by Chris Landry in 1980. There's still some shick that ain't seen an edge though, methinks.
-
The TR's done, I'm just waiting for the photos... OK, time to do some work!
-
Oh yeah, and you never have to front point. You might have to take a line that's not as directly oriented up the gradient to use 'pied plat', if you can't flex your boot enough. But front-pointing is easy anyway in a rando boot.
