From a gumby: This is such a fucking waste of time. I remember listening to this kind of shit when surfing 20 years ago. I wasn't even in the same park as the badasses or even the shit-talkers. Twenty years later, where are they now? Who knows, who cares. I remember I had fun, because it was about me and the waves. Twenty years from now, all I'll remember about the mountains is the fun I had accomplishing what was right for me.

Instead, the administration should be attempting to split the rack, contrasting Germany from France perhaps by pointing out France's motivations and arrogance. I believe, as someone who voted for him, and likes to think about leadership from a strategy standpoint, that Bush is failing to manage a few of his top men. I'm talking along the lines of Eisenhower keeping Patton, Monty, et al in check...Nancy Reagan keeping Don Regan under wraps, etc. Every administration has divisiveness among its superegos in the senior ranks. They must be tightly managed so that the administration as a whole stays on-message. That doesn't seem to happen with employees like Rumsfeld. That stupid "old Europe, new Europe" comment alone should have been grounds for a private ass-reaming opportunity to get him back on-message and show him who's leader. But unfortunately I don't think Bush has that in him. He's being out-willed by his subordinates. In my organization, I call that insubordination.

The folks on the airwaves have a job, and that is to make headlines. Since they have the ability to incite the masses, they wield quite a bit of power. But they have little responsibility and accountability for that power. How many prominent newspeople (ex: Schorr) have lived in disgrace in the same way as politicians have, once they have fucked up? Not many---there is not much accountability, and people are really just wanting to be entertained by the news. Sure, there are a few young reporters who are busted for pure fiction once in awhile. But I maintain that the use of subtle spin and implication, and also pervasive exaggeration found in the news, are more damaging and serve to wrongly steer our thinking. For example, today NPR has NASA sounding like it's guilty of bungling. They have some flippin' sociology professor saying that there's "something wrong with the organization." I just about wrecked my car when I heard that, out of the mouth of somebody who probably couldn't run third shift at a Dairy Queen. The news media should save the kibbitzing for the final reports...but no, 'creating' the story is more important.

I just hate to see people lionized because they are old and at the end of their career. People in their 70s, 80s, and 90s are the same mixed bag as they all were 30 years ago. He defined himself at the height of his career back in the 1970s. Sold himself to the .

Daniel Schorr didn't have the balls to publish CIA and/or FBI documents that were classified back in the mid-70s. Instead he SOLD said docs to a reporter at the Village Voice, who published them. He then tried to make it look like Leslie Stahl did it. He resigned amid scandal from CBS Daniel Schorr is a slimeball no matter where your political affiliations lie. He has a whole lot of people believing that he is a do-gooder who "believes in the first amendment." Bullshit. I believe that he believes in Daniel Schorr's career interests at the moment, and further likes to make trouble for anyone in a position of authority. His silver tongue and the nature of our press (wielding power without responsibility) have allowed the slimebag to skate through with reputation intact.

Rasputin & Blackbeard= Hard to kill. I guess that you could also say that both were as bad news in real life as their myths now make them out to be. F'rinstance, Blackbeard took a governor's pardon and went 'legit' for a year or so...married a planter's young daughter and moved into a house. But within a few months he was back out on his ship, up to his old tricks, and apparently sharing his young bride with the crew.
