  1. Okay, you guys have sold me on the light fleece. I have figured that I could shed some weight from my current combo, which has been a mid-weight fleece and a fairly heavy gore-tex shell if there's precip/wind. Now, what's the best soft-shell to go with that?

That's what happens when you've got a better donut. Dunkin's suck...they always seema day old.

Having grown up in the land of Krispy Kreme, I can tell you that the only KK to eat is plain glazed, round, and still warm. Everything else is imitation.
  4. Dear Dr., I actually had my eye on those earlier today...thanx! As for owing you, I think my insurance may be in the process of paying your office soon for that prescrip for "opthalmic thc"
  5. Since people are discussing sleeping bags and shells, I'd like to ask a dumb question. Anyone seen a good deal recently on a mid-weight fleece jacket that would do for layering and by itself (no windstopper, etc.)? I left my good one in a rental car...

quote: Nonsense! You need some nice bacon and a healthy dose of caffeine! Actually, good Dr., my southern genes prefer coffee, grits, and a nice slice of Virginia ham with red-eye gravy.

You all need a cholestrol and trigyceride check!

    Hmmm...

That's it, I've heard enough. Let's just go ahead and take Canada now, just for the water supply. We'll leave Quebec on its own, to allow its separatists to reflect on what it's like to get what you say you want...
  11. quote: Uh....That is Washington DC! The White House is bottom center, New York Ave the diagonal heading off Northeast of it. Aha, at least I recognized Housemann's work...DC as well as Paris. Part of the idea on the wide boulevards was also that an opponent could not quickly come into the city & block off access (w/o a whole lot of materiel and stealth).

  13. quote: The sooner they all go to four cycle engines a lot of these problems you legitimate backcountry users have about them will go away. The particular type of socioeconomic culture that gives rise to ORV's as recreation, never. This sums it up, but I believe that the manufacturers look at their businesses from the perspective of "what markets can we sell our 2-cycle engines into?" Motorcycles, jetskis, snowmobiles are 2-stroke engine delivery systems.
  14. Iain, I must say that you have impressed me with your adolescent stoopidity.
  15. As a sailboater, I find that jetski operators feel the need to pass within 50 ft of every sailboat. My theory is that the high incidence of toplessness draws them near.
  16. Ah..so...Grasshopper
  17. trask, It was a sad day in Chi-town when his helo went down. I was lucky enough to live in Austin when SRV would have a "make-rent Monday" show most every month at the Continental Club.
  18. No, DFA, I was just listening to your beloved NPR this morning, and got the idea to poll this large group of park users.
  19. They should be banned from NP's, IMHO. I'm not a tree-hugger, but the damn 2-cycle engines pollute air and water big-time. Noisy, annoying, detract from outdoor experience.
  20. I thought it was Hausemann's Paris...am I wrong?
  21. Are you saying she pulls a train??
  22. At first I laughed and felt less like a delinquent when I read these posts. It's amazing how similar others' interests were. I did the hairspray flame-thrower (and even progressed to a can of starting ether). I made gunpowder, schrapnel grenades, perfected a remote igniter using a drycell and light-gage steel wool. Drilled holes in planks, inserted shotgun shells, and used a BB gun to hit firing pins. Hitched a sledride on a postal jeep bumper. Received many shocks from experiments with alternating current. Was run over by a horse, a tobaggan full of people, and had several body-as-projectile incidents over the years. How did I avoid serious injury or death? On the other hand, this thread makes me much more worried about my own kids, because now I realize it wasn't just me and my sick pranks!

  25. -Rockfights. -A couple of years later, bottlerocket fights using golfclub shafts as guidance systems. -My older bro 'marooning' me on a sandbar at age 7, for about an hour. -Same year, I indoctrinate all my sister's girlfriends into my 'club' (ceremony involving nude parade on dock). -Riding a VW bug hood down a rocky hillside w/ my buddy, eventually cutting the shit out of ourselves in the process. -Ocean night swims. -Skating on thin ice. -Tubing on ski slopes in the dark. Ah, the good ol days...
