  1. NO Thanks !! I'll take my constitution dead thankyou. This whole living constitution, re-interpretation for modern times stuff is rationalization for activists that can't get the country to agree with them in a democratic way, so instead they get activitist judges to re-interpret the constitution instead. If you want change - pass a law, if you want fundamental change - pass a constitutional ammendment. qed. So the supreme court is almost always comprised of "activist judges"?? Whatever, that is so stupid it doesn't even warrant discussion. In fact, the very thing you ask for is impossible. There are places in the consitution that, like it or not, can be interpreted in many different ways. You obviously have a different interpretation of the curch and state clause than do others, Thomas Jefferson included. But like brie said, what does good ol TJ know? The other obvious one is the 2nd amendment. Any sane person realizes it was not intented to arm the populace against each other with fully automatic weapons and rocket launchers. Wait, am I thinking of somebody else, or are you a lawyer? Based on your arguments it seems like I am remembering wrong. There are a lot of two and three letter names on here starting with a "J"
  2. Anti religious bigotry is the last form of acceptable discrimination left in a PC world ... sigh. That is not bigotry at all. I don't want a religous SOCIETY, meaning a government and society based on religion. I don't give a fuck what people do on their own time and for their own beliefs. It's analogous to me saying I dont want a "white" or "black" society.
  3. Most of them have a fixed binding, only for riding down. REI in seattle has like 5 pairs of K2 shorties for sale right now for like $89, which is really cheap if you want the things. I've ridden them once, up at Stevens pass, and they were pretty damn fun. You can hop all sorts of shit. I was drunk while doing it so maybe that enhanced the experience tho...
  4. Thankfully the trend is slowly leaning towards a less religous society. Europe is well ahead of us. After witnessing the "wonders" of religion they are now referred to by many Anthropologist as a "Post-christian society" Their church attendance numbers are staggeringly low and a fraaction of what they are in the U.S. Obviously this has taken the greater part of 2 centuries, many wars, and plenty of bloodshed to manifest itself. Do we think there is any way to push the Islamic world along this path in some accelerated manor, knowing what we do now? Or do we have to deal with heavily religious and agressive socities in that corner of the world for hundreds of years to come?
  5. HAHA.yeah, that one is great. The ultimate tho is the technique of raising the body way above the chassis to give the high ground clearance appearance while doing nothing but raising your center of gravity higher than the already lousy Tahoe. I think I am going to buy a unimog and paint a giant banner on either side saying "HUMMERS ARE FOR PUSSIES" or something like that
  6. What the failed to mention is I bet their "rolling slowdown" probably works 1 out of 5 times. The other 4 times they probably create a pile up.
  7. I haven't read the spray folder much lately, but had to jump in on this one too!
  8. http://slate.msn.com/id/2096191/ Haha...this one should entertain us for a while. Ironically the picture is of an H2 offroading. I'll give the H1 props where it is due, it's one hellavu vehicle off road. The H2 (also known as the Chevy Tahoe with stupid ass looking body) is mediocre off-road. Anyway, some quotes... "After 9/11, Hummers became a cocky symbol of American greatness. Driving the biggest, baddest, least-fuel-efficient car on the planet was tantamount to giving the finger to environmentalists..." "You could be an active home-front warrior by buying an expensive Hummer—imitating our troops in Iraq and stimulating the economy at the same time. (Hummers also come in handy in case you need to mount a motorized assault on the Stop-n-Shop.)" "In January 2004, just 1,927 Hummers were sold—off nearly 50 percent from December 2003, and down by one third from January 2003. The future doesn't look very bright, either. Business Week reported there are 68 days worth of Hummers in inventory, and that GM has throttled back its 2004 sales forecast from 40,000 to 30,000." "The sales drop reflects simple common sense. The Hummer is a mediocre car, with the quality ratings to show for it." Have at it!
  9. Ha! Close to it, but I think there have been a few threads even more epic on very similar topics.
  10. Oh, man are you pent up. For Pete's sake, dude; this has descended into the obsurd. I've grown tired of beating each other over the head with our given opinions. Believe what you will, and do so passionately; I applaud you. I believe what I believe and seek to live my life in a consistent, intentional manner. I'm at peace with the fact that we disagree. Greg_W You don't seem to be at peace with much after your totally insulting "bitches" comment. With sentiment like that how is anybody supposed to take your position seriously. As minx said, you just come off as bitter. Towards what I have no idea. Quite to the contrary, I am not pent up at all; I'm enjoying the sunshine and packing for a wonderful 4 out of the next 5 days in the mountains.
  11. For a guy who was challanging RumR for insulting comebacks, that was particularly intelligent. So what is your strategy again...argue points that you think you can argue on, then get beat and reply with something stupid. Seems to be working!
  12. Which is total fucking bullshit, man. Because it is the men who get fucked into paying that bitch for the next 18 years. Good god you are ignorant! Yup, it's all the "bitches" fault that they end up pregnant, or raped, or whatever else. And us, as males, the only taxpayers in this country have to pay for those bitches. Funny, I know plenty of very successful women who raised children on their own or had abortions in the past. What relates the two, I have no idea, but you seem to think so. Maybe if we spent more money on education, including on birth control issues, you'd have less "bitches" to pay for, eh Greg? No, actually, that isn't good, cause the repubs can't see government money going to support birth-control education since that is anti-religion. Fucking hypocrities.
  13. Times change my friend...seperation of church and state....what dont you get about that? It cuts both ways. Your idea of what is front and center in this country may be different than others. This isn't a christian country and I'm sorry if you are confused on that point. When evaluating an argument against the consitution, like any historic document, you must take context into account. This is exactly what we have a supreme court for. Go read a selection of their rulings over the past 100 years and you'll find example after example of rulings made based on how the document needs to be re-interpreted for modern society. Since a bunch of you are arguing the god stance, the exact same thing can be said about the bible. If you wanted to take that at face value I could murder homosexuals, kill my wife for looking towards another man, kill my neighbor for planting two crops to close to each other in his garden and enslave "lesser" peoples for my own gain.
  14. C'mon Bronco, the pro-choice abortion argument is ridiculous. It's a woman, it's her right. You may be a christian but the government of this country should not be. Honestly, the worst thing for the republican party is the joke of a christian right. As every other society since Christ has proven, the less christianity is associated with the government, the stronger the society becomes. I dont want to turn this into a religious belief, but the fact that the government has any say at all in abortion is a joke. In fact, I dont even think we, as men, have any say. This is one area where the women get to call the shots.
  15. Good. Stay downtrodden and defeated, you miserable fuck. I'll keep working hard, getting rewarded for my efforts and live the lifestyle I desire. Keep digging ditches or living off public assistance you worthless piece of trash. First off all, settle down. It's ok if you are old and bitter, or whatever it is you are, but I'd hate to see you have a stroke over this. Second, I have worked my ass of to get the lifestyle I have. Until recently I worked in a very lucrative job (probably more lucrative than whatever it is you do, since you seem fixated on getting "rewarded") and left it to persue something I love more in life. I may end up getting paid less but I hope to earn back what I dont get in financial reward in the hapiness I get doing whatever it is I will do. I have never taken a cent from the government in any form, so keep at it with your sweeping generalizations.
  16. If it was there when the topo was drawn I would be surprised. Doesn't it seem like they get every other miniscule piece of ice on the topos? They seem pretty accurate in that regard.
  17. So obviously it is pretty well known fact that the glaciers are receeding as a whole. Recently I have become really hooked on terraserver and I've actually found a few places where glaciers appear to exist where they didn't on the older topo maps. Below is an example of the Basin just east of Sitting Bull Mountain, in the glacier peak wilderness. You obviously can't tell for sure, but that large snowpack sure lookes like firn to me. Whadda ya think? NOTE: The topo is at a slightly smaller zoom than the aerial because the topo becomes ridiculously unreadable zoomed any further.
  18. How has the right managed to brainwash the middle class into thinking that the republican party is good for them? Democractic or republican, the rich win no matter what...they stay rich and get richer. It's the rest of us that lose when corporate america and the rich get kickback after kickback. Anyway, with the Iraq is going and the economy, I'm thinking Bushy is finished, so enough with this, bring on more hotties.
  19. Jeebus...how did something that hot come from the genes of the ridiculous looking ape of a president we have? Also, I object to the backdrop...since when have the republicans given a shit about starving people, let alone starving people of color?
  20. I have a +15 bag (now granted, it's a marmot, so maybe their ratings are more conservative than REI's) and I use that all winter long. I have never been cold save that night I got my entire bag wet and frozen in boston basin a month ago. That was operator error
  21. The Lady of the lake does indeed have a monopoly, and they own the lodge at teh boat landing too! apart from hiking in from highway 20 (4hrs, flat trail) you can also take the Chelan Airways float plane up, which can go when you want it to, and only take about 25 or 30 minutes. However, this is more expensive so it's best to get a group together and split it. The boat company does have a "high speed" catamaran boat which makes 2 trips to Stehekin a day, but costs almost as much as the plane and takes an hour each way. So what trail from highway 20 gets you there in 4 hours? The shortest way I could find from highway 20 was along the bridge creek trail to the bridge creek camp. That is like 15 or 16 hours, which, granted, I could easily do jogging, but I'm not sure I could swing that with a big pack and skis on my back. Did you mean 15 or 16 miles instead of hours? Also, I'm sure that it would be more than 11 miles from the western Wash. end of the cascade river road, over the pass, and down to Bridge creek. When the road was NOT washed out, it was about 3 miles up to the pass, then ~5 miles to Cottonwood campground at the end of the Stehekin road, and a shuttle. The stehekin road ended at glory Mtn. last summer(~2.5 miles short of cottonwood)and it's another 4 miles along the road to bridge creek, which might be impassable to cars due to last fall's flooding. This whole hike would be even longer if the cascade river road is not repaired. Straight down bridge creek is 12 miles (flat, slight downhill) to the Stehekin road. It's 3 miles to the Fireweed PCT junction where you can take Mcalester creek to Mcalester pass(~6miles), then down rainbow creek to the Bakery(10miles). At Fireweed you can also stay on bridge creek/pct and it's 9 more miles to the Stehekin road, for a 12 mile total walk in. I know of people who bike it, which is a fast option, but mind the parkies. Perfect, this is exactly the info I needed Thanks man. Oh, and yeah, 15 or 16 miles, not hours. I won't be wheelchairing it or crawling it joe simpson style.
  22. Shit, Sky didn't tell me he had a Kilo Plus. I think I'm gonna bail on climbing with him now...
  23. You mean the shit-talking? just keep flinging insults until somebody bites?
  24. That is like 15 or 16 hours, which, granted, I could easily do jogging, but I'm not sure I could swing that with a big pack and skis on my back. I must be missing something. Getting to that bridge creek campground is probably easier coming from cascade pass. It's 11 miles that way, and I know a lot of that is downhill skinning. Granted, you have to climb to get over cascade pass, but that is pretty cake.
  25. Yeah, during the summer season they offer the 50mph boat which also has a morning run. Unfortunately during the "off season" (i.e. not swarming with tourons seasons) there is only one boat and one run.
