huh? I have no issue with a democratic republic but it is quite clear that people like you and Hayek do.

like you guys are for the "proper scope of government" and we get to enjoy the mess you created every day.

in the no dogma/no ideology ark for me please.

Even Thatcher who was a bully thought that Hayek had gone off the deep end: "Friedrich von Hayek, the Austrian émigré and University of Chicago professor whose 1944 Road to Serfdom dared to suggest that state planning would produce not "freedom and prosperity" but "bondage and misery," visited Pinochet's Chile a number of times. He was so impressed that he held a meeting of his famed Société Mont Pélérin there. He even recommended Chile to Thatcher as a model to complete her free-market revolution. The Prime Minister, at the nadir of Chile's 1982 financial collapse, agreed that Chile represented a "remarkable success" but believed that Britain's "democratic institutions and the need for a high degree of consent" make "some of the measures" taken by Pinochet "quite unacceptable." Like Friedman, Hayek glimpsed in Pinochet the avatar of true freedom, who would rule as a dictator only for a "transitional period," only as long as needed to reverse decades of state regulation. "My personal preference," he told a Chilean interviewer, "leans toward a liberal dictatorship rather than toward a democratic government devoid of liberalism." In a letter to the London Times he defended the junta, reporting that he had "not been able to find a single person even in much maligned Chile who did not agree that personal freedom was much greater under Pinochet than it had been under Allende." Of course, the thousands executed and tens of thousands tortured by Pinochet's regime weren't talking. http://bloodandtreasure.typepad.com/blood_treasure/2006/11/hayekian_dictat.html for the uninitiated in Hayek's parlance 'liberal' means more or less unfettered capitalism

Except there is no need to read any of his stuff to know that he is dead wrong because some government intervention is absolutely necessary at the very least to manage resources and the environment. Moreover, reading his work won't tell you that Hayek thought Pinochet's Chilean dictatorship was the road to freedom, which puts the "freedom" versus "serfdom" rhetoric in perspective, i.e. the usual "war is peace" libertarian routine.

Among better news for the human race, FOX News channel audience ratings are in free fall, -20-35% since the beginning of the year: "on the decline was FNC’s Glenn Beck, which as lost -26% of its total viewer audience and -23% in the demo. Other double-digit demo losses included the 9a hour (down -22%), 10a (-21%), 11a (-27%), Noon (-28%), Studio B/Smith at 3p (-28%), Cavuto at 4p, (-29%), Bret Baier at 6p (-24%), Fox Report/Smith at 7p (-29%), O’Reilly at 8p (-30%), Hannity at 9p (-35%) and Greta at 10p (-29%)."

Indeed, the sale spike is linked to Beck's pushing it on his propaganda show. It must make JayB all warm inside to know that Beck's viewers, people with the average acumen of a tea pot, will read that book.

"One member of a government team charged with estimating the flow rate, Ira Leifer, told the Times that he thinks BP’s new system – which involved cutting through a pipe called a riser – actually made the leak worse. Prior to its deployment, the company did warn that the procedure could increase the flow rate by as much as 20 percent. “The well pipe clearly is fluxing way more than it did before,” said Dr. Leifer, a researcher at the University of California, Santa Barbara. “By way more, I don’t mean 20 percent, I mean multiple factors.”

While the oil industry and their shills in Washington were telling us there was no reason to be concerned about spills from offshore drilling: Oil spills escalated in this decade By Alan Levin, USA TODAY The number of spills from offshore oil rigs and pipelines in U.S. waters more than quadrupled this decade, a trend that could have served as a warning for the massive leak in the Gulf of Mexico, according to government data and safety experts. The spills — and the amount of oil that leaked — grew markedly worse even when taking increases in production into account, a USA TODAY analysis of federal data shows. The leaks came as the oil industry repeatedly claimed that offshore drilling was never safer. From the early 1970s through the '90s, offshore rigs and pipelines averaged about four spills per year of at least 50 barrels, according to the Minerals Management Service (MMS). One barrel is equal to 42 gallons. The average annual total surged to more than 17 from 2000 through 2009. From 2005 through 2009, spills averaged 22 a year. The company with the most spills from 2000 through 2009 is BP, which leased the well spewing millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf since April 20, according to the data. The oil giant and its affiliated companies reported 23 spills of 50 barrels or more, not including the latest blowout. Oil firm Shell was next with 21, according to MMS spill reports. Environmental activists and safety experts said the increasing numbers of spills should have been a red flag that the industry needed to tighten safety practices and that federal regulators needed to improve oversight. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2010-06-07-oil-spill-mess_N.htm

I feel that you are totally wrong about this. Most Turks have no more responsibility for their government policy toward the Kurds than most Americans do for their government policy toward Iraq (not only Americans were manipulated into war but they voted multiple times since 2006 for withdrawal from Iraq), little less for what their grand-parents' government did to the Armenians. You should really reconsider your thinking on this. As long as the land grabbing goes on, we all know it's empty rhetoric.
-
Probably more. Is it 4-6 millions Armenians died during the genocide during (?) the 1st world war? Actually I overestimated the numbers by at least a factor factor of ~3: "Estimates vary between 600,000 (per the modern Turkish state) to 1,500,000 (per Western scholars)" according to wikipedia

spare us the drama queen act, racist fuck!
-
Probably more. Is it 4-6 millions Armenians died during the genocide during (?) the 1st world war? and I am not sure how many Kurds but it still goes on today.

Nobody is responsible for what long-dead Americans did in the past, unless they refuse to draw the appropriate lessons and pursue similar policies today or advocate the continual funding of a rogue state that does similar things. whether they want it or not, Israelis will have to deal with the demographics of Palestinians sooner or later.
-
it's funny if you think that Israelis making fun of their victims is .. funny.

so far I haven't read anyone contesting the autopsy results and like the Guardian I tend to give the benefit of the doubt to the council on forensic medecine for producing the autopsy. Why is Israel refusing an independent investigation as requested by most everyone around the world? There are reporters and other people who were present on the boat who claim that shooting started before the commando landed on the boats. Myself, I suspect that Israel wanted to send a clear message to people who try to break the illegal Israeli blockade of Gaza (condemned by the United Nations) and that killing these people wasn't necessary for any other purpose.
-
That's quite an offensive statement considering Israel's continual land grabbing since 1948 and the misery that Palestinians have endured. What about those who enable one side to the tune of 10's of billions of dollars over the years and unlimited military aid of course? do you have any wishes for them?
