you're gonna get a swift hamm up your boat, paul
  6. I LOVE it when the webcams start coming out on the board along with ridiculous suggestions that it's snowing already. It gets the rock guys so ticked off.

    GUESS WHAT!

geezus dude go ahead and keep the beefchub avatar, it wasn't that big of a deal to me.
  12. I hope people are not approaching via the scree slopes. Yuck. The n. ridge is by far the way to go up, then ski the scree down.
  13. I think it's just the usual rear-covering non-speak. If there is a reason to pick up a sub-80kg load in an "organized" rescue, than the thing would work just fine in an "organized" rescue. No one in their right mind would use this silly little thing for hauling a "traditional" 280kg rescue load (BCCTR) when it supposedly barely hauls 1 person (80kg).
  14. The canadian rockies are so cool. Thanks for the great pictures. Always impressed by the scale of stuff there.

  16. That chossy starting gully on east ridge makes you wonder what you're getting yourself into. I like coming through that gap at the ridge crest on the other side.
  17. ohmygosh you're still using them? your luck will run out some day.
  18. I like the idea of volunteering time on trails to get a pass. Maybe they should make the pass un-buyable and one has to put in some time in some capacity to get one? Or is that too much like Communism?
  19. Sadly, Mt. Washington is the place to be this year if you are in the 1042nd medivac.

    It's Time

This site is well known for its juvenile behavior, but perhaps this is a new low...
  21. Yes, money does not fall out of the sky. However, I do not think it is appropriate to use parking fees collected at "undeveloped" trailheads primarily used by wilderness users to pay for new boat ramps, for example, or elaborate "labor day camping sites" on USFS land. I hate to hear that the USFS is hurting for money when I see a brand-new enormous log cabin-style ranger station in Detroit, OR. Now I'm not sure this is happening or not, but if it is, I think it is wrong. Again, I pay federal taxes to cover this.
  22. That is a broken image link but I assume it is a secret peanut butter stashing chamber for border crossings.
  23. If the TH is easy to access, people tend to get more tickets/warnings. In Oregon, expect to get something on the windshield at Santiam Pass every time.
  24. How would I know that the money I am giving them is going towards road and trail damage repairs and not to another shingled state-of-the-art bathroom that will not see restocking of toilet paper for 9/10's of the year? As far as I know, the money is sent to Washington D.C. We pay for our public lands through taxes. Fee-based recreation is the gateway to commercialization of access, in my opinion.
  25. The Eliot is in full swing with some excellent options for top-ropes. We found some good stuff in the upper icefall after hunting around a bit. Nice, long, gently overhanging pitches. Have a good time.
