Here's a couple of truths: 1) All of us will eventually die. 2) But, we don't know when we'll die. So, what I'm trying to say is that if you're into adventure climbing then you should be prepared for the eventuality of death. I don't know exactly what that would be. Funny too, is the paradox represented by engaging in high risk (to life) activity to squeeze the fullness out of the act of living. Does this taunting of death somehow work out to increase your vitality? Sort of a challenge to the universal order. If I challenge the gods, do I become stronger, more virile? I know as a guy, I hate weakness, there underlies why I climb, because it makes me seem stronger. YES

blah blah blah, did you say something of importance??? P.S. I know that, and that was not the point that I was making. And Just to be clear, In Oregon it has gotten so out of controle with small groups getting stupid laws on the ballet it has become rediculus. I do not want to debate this.It is boring and irritating. It seems to me that the vocal minority are such a pain in the ass that they get their way in Eugene JUST SO THEY WILL SHUT UP. and it is destroying our comunity.

I firmly believe that if I want to die with my brains splatted all over I-5 I aught to be able to. It is my choice. Would you want some one to tell you that you can't climb because it isn't safe??? i hate to be told what to do but in reality what i dislike even more is having to pay (as a taxpayer) for the damage people do to themselves when it's avoidable. seat belts and helmets mitigate the injuries people receive from motor vehicle accidents. this reduces the liklihood that i'll be paying for their extended stay in a the hospital or rehab facility b/c they've become a carrot. obviously these things don't eliminate this problem. the preponderance of evidence shows that helmets and seatbelts significantly reduce injuries and save lives. because of that, i think passing laws requiring their use is in the public's best interest. (ie. my interest as a taxpayer) I agree Minx. I hate to be told what to do as well idon't have statistics... but it seems to me that if you get in a major accident with out a helmet you just die... no questions asked do not pass go. with a helmet... magor injery etc. etc. for the most part I would probably wear a helmet any way, but I would rather choose for myself.

I have given this mucg though especialy since my grandmother passed in 1997. I would much rather choose the time and place of my own passing than die in a hospital. My grand mother literaly had to beg to have the machiens turned off. I never want to have to be in that kind of position.

Personaly, I think both sides are wrong. They are of the same ilk... two sides of the same coin. They call it by a diffrent name but it is the same beast. if people worried less about what everyone else did and concentrated on living life how they personaly believe (and followed 3 easy laws) the world would be a better place for it.IMHO

welll? that's a good question...come on, step up greg_w? incubus? liberals take our rights away in smaller doses. Seat belt law. helmet Law and the such... they are the 'Great Mommy State' and tell us it is for our own good. It is not the same... but over time as the # of laws add up... the effect is the same. There should realy only be three laws

I would say the parent was the problem. THe gun is the owner's responsibility; i.e., the parent. My ol' man was career military. Thus, my brother and I grew up with guns, shooting at beer bottles in the water and hunting. I would have never thought of bringing a gun to school because there was the fear instilled in us by the ol'man. You see, he used to leave his coiled belt in the same closet where the rifles and ammo were. A visible remainder. So, yeah... I gotta agree with ya, Greg. Maybe we gotta point at a more elusive culprit, the loss of time to spend with kids to teach them or the lack of foresight on the part of parents or... However, I do think that access to guns has increased dramatically over time and that is part of the problem. Now, the knee-jerk reaction is to limit accessibility, which I don't necessarily accept. when I was a child all the guns in my home were on a gun rack next to the front door. It was never an issue.
