  1. Yeah. Party if I die in the mountains. Chances are better that I will die on 405 on my way home. THAT would suck. Of course, I do not WANT to die in the mountains because then my wife would stand over my grave and say "I told you so." Only my friends would know that I had lived a good life. But if I had a choice, and I guess I do but we could all live in Oklahoma too, I would rather die in bed having climbed everything my body was able to, right up to the last day it was able to. And while I am laying there in bed dying and my wife asks me what I would like her to tell our children, I will say "Climb hard. Breathe deep. Dive into a high lake and dry off in the sun. It doesn't get any better than that." well said and I MUCH AGREE
  2. Cheers
  3. your girls will admire whom ever they admire... that is not the point. The point is that britney Madonna and Tori are shoved down our throtes by the media.... frankly I think Steph Davis is a far better climber, more beautiful and more interesting... but I am 31 not 7 So is it Tori you are down on or the media? Do you watch TV etc? I am just curious where you are coming from. Do you promote getting rid of media? Cutting kids off from it? Partially? etc. no... I don't watch t.v I don't have one. No I don't promote cutting your children off from anything.... life is all about balence. I never once said there was ANYTHING inhaerntly WRONG with yoiur kids admiring tori. I just think there are better more interesting WOMEN to admire... but again... I am a 31 year old woman... not a kid. your girls will like who they like and do what works for them... my only sugestion would be to balence that with introducing them to admirable people who touch your everyday normal life

  5. I think that if Erik were to leave he would do so for his own reasons and not because of what anyone else wanted or said.

  7. there prolly are some.... like I said I would buy my girls (if I had them) this doll. I think on one hand that she is a roll model for little girls... so is britney spears.... So was Maddona for girls of my generation....you can put rock climbing or rock music behind it... it is till the media, agents and the like driving the car. YES she is talented, so is britney so is madonna. Do you want to know who my kids look up to?? who they admire??? Texplorer. If you ask them Tex can do just about anything. When they tell stories Tex always saves the day. They don't realy care about 'super stars' beacuse they have increadible REAL people in theur lives.
  8. Re-read her email. Your answer is in there. What I don't know is bigger than what I do but when my girls see other people doing things, they want to get involved "because everybody else is doing it". They own several Barbies apiece. Makeup and sexy clothes are in high demand (they are 5 and 7). So if you think I am going to discourage them from fawning over Tori, I have to doubt that you have any idea what it's like to raise girls today. But you are still entitled to your opinion regardless of what it is based on. You're prejudiced because you have little girls. Your saying you'd rather have your kids idolizing Tori Allen rather than Britney Spears. Still doesn't make her acceptable to the rest of the climbing community who don't have the same issues you do. But you used to climb in the Bitterroot, so your cool as far as I'm concerned! I am thinking that the differance between Tori Allen and Britney Spears is about nil.. that is MY OPPINION and I am not an expert on either.

  15. The Rock is an actor and WWE wrestler. His world is all about shameless self promotion and the almighty dollar. If ya'll feel it's okay for a new generation of kids to view climbing in the same light, then fine. This is what leads to sports becoming about vanity and empty consumerism. Look at the snowboarding scene - the latest and greatest gear is more of a priority to kids than the actual sport. I have nothing against Tori - she sounds like a great girl and very well adjusted; good for her to take advantage of these opportunities. However I don't have to like what these opportunities, that only a few individuals benefit from, are doing to climbing. BTW: there are outdoor Barbies now. this is better
  16. Humble, polite, friendly, encouraging, intelligent, articulate, multitalented, motivated, successful ... by all accounts, a lousy representation of most women climbers, and a poor role-model to boot. Right. I am now taking this back...
  17. C'mon give it up Princess we wanna know
  18. Bug- frankly I couldn't give a rats ass. I don't realy even pay attention to professional climbing. That is not what I am interested in. Sure I hope she is happy, has a nice life whatever... but it has NOTHING to do with my life, except that I think she is a poor representation of WOMEN climbers.
