  1. AK, as working class liberals, you and I are in the same boat, so it's a little painful for me to defend Scott Harpel. I'd like to point out that your examples merely suggest that he can't type, rather than spell. Teh must be one of the most "misspelled" words in the computer world. Got it, cheif? ( )
  2. Dru, is this a quote or a personal revelation? I'd have to say it's as great an analogy to explain Stalin as any I've heard.
  3. Happy? While I'm very happy, with regards to my political leanings I'm merely reporting what the Libertarian test said about me. Many of the political systems are in theory lovely to live in, but only if you leave the nasty selfish self important chestbeating human species out of the equation. None of the real world attempts to achieve socialism have included any reverence for individual freedoms, therefore they're not really left-liberal, are they? To put things in an overly simplified Michael Moorcockian universe, life is a struggle between Chaos and Law, and supremacy of either side is doom for us humans trapped between pure ideals. Everything is a lot grayer than you think, Scott.
  4. I don't think Stalin valued individual liberty even in theory, but I'd agree that we need the whole political melange to achieve something useful.
  5. yeah! stalin was a liberal. Silly rabbit, you were on a pretty good roll there for awhile. Stalin is a classic example of an Authoritarian. How would you justify him as in favor of individual liberty? Don't revert to being a knee-jerk neo-con, you're much more interesting as a thinking Libertarian.
  6. Well Trask, that's why Liberals make better leaders and the Libertarians and Conservatives make good career military personnel.
  7. well, I'd check it out if I could, but I can't make the trek from far Tenino this Thursday.
  8. ain't that the truth, JK!

    I will

Just thought I'd change the thread title, I'm not getting in line.
  10. The title comes off when I get word the check cleared, chump.
  11. Clever reading at the bottom of the forum page will reveal that there are a number of moderators here. Timm@y tends not to meddle with this level of things much, Alex is quite subtle, Iceguy has a lot of other hobbies, I tend to tolerance with abrupt overload limits, and Minx is more or less Erik's replacement. As a hardcore sprayer with a thick skin and a calm self-confidence that lets her say what she means and do whatever she feels like, I think she's the finest embodiment of my recent concept of moderator-as-warlord that cc.com has ever seen. This might be really fun, depending on your perspective.
  12. Hah, I miss that guy too. I tend to read across the spectrum, whether I agree or not. Anyone who's got the knack of making me reflect on just what is it I believe in and why gets a from me.

    HOT SEX

    Oops.
  14. And all "no" will get you to the "authoritarian" corner. Interesting that that corner is icky to just about everyone.

    I will

I was just teasing you, not trying to change you.
  16. could be I am not realy sure Really?
  17. See what I'm talking about? Warlord.
  18. My wife is a librarian, is that what you meant Muffy?
  19. Am I the only person on the board who misses MtnGoat? That's not to say I could read everything he posted, but I liked that guy. Fairweather was always the pitbull of the deep right, kind of like MtnGoat with brass knuckles. Though come to think of it, the Goat was more purely libertarian, and FW is starting to lean to the neo-con side of things. Sheesh, just look at his latest "If I Were A Moderator" post.
  20. Scott, do I need to point out that the test was designed by Libertarians? The goal is to push as many as possible into the Libertarian end of the pool (which is why over 30% of respondents wind up there), and shake up the way people think of themselves. Dustin, maybe you really are a liberal and just never knew it, it must be time to come out of the closet.
  21. Yeah, but what about Lummox? Are you only going to post with this avatar while Lummox is on vacation?
  22. I can't help it E-rock, I'm one notch to the NE of you on the political grid.
  23. I dunno E-rock, I think self-inflation is a bi-partisan platform.
  24. Anybody busted for an open container in their car can't complain about what anyone calls them. Dude is one of the politer titles I can think of. "Sir" is defintely not on the menu.
  25. I suppose no one is surprised I come out solidly in the left liberal segment. Somehow I thought I might edge a little closer to the Libertarian end, but I suppose the fact I've gotten a little wishy washy on free trade issues is the only thing that keeps me out of the left corner pocket.
