How to train a cat to stay off the counter; lay out a bunch of short pieces of tape sticky side up. Put a can of cat food on the counter. 4. Sit back and enjoy the show!
  3. "The office of District Justice Michael John Smith, where Bradford and Connor were arraigned, said they were not represented by lawyers. Telephone listings for them could not be located." Yeah, I want her phone number too.
  4. Kip, If you aren't to stoned to remember you already asked a very similar question about colleges earlier this winter. Further this topic has been discussed many other times and I am pretty sure you know where the Missoula section is on Rc.com and mountainproject.com. Think of it this way Missoula=300+days of Fog a year Bozeman=300+ days of sunshine each year There are no rules against asking repeat questions. There are also no rules about being rude. What ever the case, the 300 rule is fairly accurate. But you break out above the fog at +1400 which is pretty easy to do around Missoula. The only real advantage Missoula has is the density of excellent rock climbing.
  5. Dude, yur dissin some kick-ass growers.
  6. Nope. But I admire your narcissism.

Holy shit! Women can parallel park!!! When did this happen? Only in a parallel universe.
  8. He had the audacity to present his decisions in an honest way. He chose NOT to lose his life in the effort to extract the tourists. In so doing, he was the last hope for those who were still out flapping in the breeze. He got roasted in Krackower's book and the US media continued the cold war hangover.
  9. Oh boy. I will not go there, I will not go there.... There is a combination of fabric stretch and metal fatigue that definately allows for the whole thing to sag in the middle after awhile. This is especially true when used a lot in very hot conditions.
  10. Fine. The slings are probably there because the chains are so short. Rope drag when pulling the rope over that course rock might be a big problem. NOW STOP YANKIN MY CHAIN!
  11. What is the carbon content of the steel used in the chain or chains? Were the bolt holes drilled deep enough or were they being pushed out by freeze-thaw? Were those your grandma's hosery? Dudes, it was a rock climb. He took pictures. We all got to see them. Nice work!

One story about a partner of mine that could have killed us both. We were on an adventure climb in Blodgett and I had run a full rope up a pitch and was down to 3 peices. None of them fit well but one was at least manky. My last good piece was to the side about 4 feet, just out of my reach. Ricky came up to that piece and I told him to stop there and hand me a few more peices as my anchor was mank. He chose to ignore this request, pulled the only bomber piece left, and traversed over to me unscathed. It took me about 1/100th of a second to locate the right piece on his harness and plug it into a crack. It was when he looked at my manky anchor that he understood. We climbed together for many years after. Our communications were better. But you cannot always plan for everything. So part of that "special bond" is knowing each other's tone and habits.

I used to wear a helmet to protect me from my mentor's slaps on the back of the head.

I was not there so please don't take this as an accusation. Delivery is everything. There are too many attitudes on this site and they are prevalent in most macho sports. So when someone comes up to me with an attitude or even the hint of one, I bristle a little. If someone comes up to me with a very friendly tone and offers help, I may STILL bristle a little but be more willing to listen if they are offerig me usolicited advice. Someone who has no idea who you are might have a little trouble accepting that you are right by default. I would have gone to the top to recover my gear and yelled down to her that hers had failed and I was about to take mine out and would she like to come and look at it? I would be firm but try to be very friendly and I would explain to her that if I had not backed up her gear she would have fallen to her death. If she still cops an attitude I would be likely to mess with her head a little. You may have done all this in which case, I will stfu.

OK, now wait a minute. That "pee all over" thing is just as bad with girls. It's just that it goes spraying out the front under the seat. I have seen the evidence. So while we men might miss "a little", at least we are further away. What's your excuse?

I was at Marymoor a couple years ago and there was a father-son duo tempting death with a variety of problems. They had a rope, 2 caribiners and a diaper sling made with 1" tubular webbing. They were doing body belays and clipping twice on the way up. I had my unsorted pack with me and invited them to look at how I would belay and with what equipment. They were eager to learn and I sold them a few old biners and a belay device for $15. I also got them started using it. The point is, they did appreciate the advice and the cheap gear. I saw the son over there a few more times and he was progressing rapidly.
  17. Often longer than that. But the point is, you have to jump on it when it is there because the Missoula and Bitterroot valleys are a pretty mild climate.
  18. Royal Robbins, 1st Ascent of NW face of Half Dome, cover of National Geographic in 1964. That was when I first knew I was going to be a rock climber. Alex Lowe, Missoula in the 70's and 80's. Alex put up a lot of hard routes in the Bitterroot and had an infectous spirit of fun and adventure. Pete Schoening, for the most incredible save and for emmulating the character of the "old school". Colin Haley, for climbing massive routes and selling me his Cobras really cheap. He also seems to "emmulate the character of the "old school"".

    Just duct-tape their tails together.
  21. Do you want my opinion or the facts? Well tough. You get both. Opinion; Cff is right. Fact; I have seen massive amounts of slush pour off of Asgard Pass in spring.
  22. I spell it relief. Are you a recycled Catbirdseat?
  23. Was that FW?
  24. Oh, Ice. Almost every winter for a week or two in Jan-Feb there are two small flows that form in Hellgate canyon along the old Milwakee bed. The first one is about 200 yds out and comes right down to the trail. They are both easy and short but better than nothing. The buildering in downtown Missou is excellent. The campus has gotten strict but is easy to poach in the dark. There used to be a legal bouldering area on the back wall of the commons.
  25. Rick Torre had a bouldering guide out. Again, it was the late 90's. It will be hard to find so I will see if I can find mine. But you have to pay Ricky when you see him.
