I will make no assumptions about what "spray" and "bragging" mean to you. brag (brg) Pronunciation Key v. bragged, brag·ging, brags v. intr. To talk boastfully. See Synonyms at boast1. v. tr. To assert boastfully. n. A boast. Arrogant or boastful speech or manner. Something boasted of. A braggart; a boaster. Games. A card game similar to poker Which of course necessitates the following: boast1 /boʊst/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[bohst] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –verb (used without object) 1. to speak with exaggeration and excessive pride, esp. about oneself. 2. to speak with pride (often fol. by of): He boasted of his family's wealth. –verb (used with object) 3. to speak of with excessive pride or vanity: He boasts himself a genius. 4. to be proud in the possession of: The town boasts a new school. –noun 5. a thing boasted of; a cause for pride: Talent is his boast. It is her boast that she has never betrayed a friend. 6. exaggerated or objectionable speech; bragging: empty boasts and threats. based on what I read in the "'06 tick list", nothing reeked of exaggeration, arrogance, excessive pride, bragging, or vanity; only #'s 4 and 5 for "boast" would fit, and they certainly don't carry the negative connotations you seemed to imply. i think the mistake you might be making (if you are making one) is an assumption that anytime anyone speaks of "their" "accomplishments", they are engaged in the activities defined above; this doesn't necessarily seem to be the case. This actually is an interesting topic for me, because it reaches deeply I think into so much of what constitutes life for most of us in our society, and ideas of "success" and etc etc. I'm reminded of a story I read about a really good native american runner from the southwest, hopi i think. he was good enough to receive a scholarship to a university, for which he was ostracized by many in his tribe. they thought he was "showing off" by being good at something. they thought he should not stand out in any way, and "success" was certainly a way of doing this. this kind of thing happens all the time, in every culture. conformity is imposed, as is conformity to acceptable non-conformist norms in sub-cultures.

Come on man, at least define what the hell you're talking about before quitting us like this!
-
I still honestly want to know what he means by "spray/bragging".
-
kev, why don't you start out by defining "spray/bragging", so that we all know our information relay protocols are standardized.
-
never had this problem.

Like during the Clinton years, when we ran a surplus? raise taxes enough, and sure you can have a surplus. but you were speaking of the democrats' deficit-laden budgets, remember?
-
all for a mere 150 dollars(?).

hang some webbing on the pull-up bar. grab the bar with your weak hand, and the webbing maybe a foot or more down from the pull-up bar, and do sets. your weak arm has to work harder to pull you up, hopefully balancing you out. i'd do multiple sets three times a week for a few weeks, and see what happens. also if you're strong enough to do one arm negatives, then do them with your weak arm. but almost everyone i know has some imbalance.

I don't believe you, even though I don't really know what you mean with this. Don't know what you mean. I guess we can be selfish about anything, including climbing, but the reverse is also possible: climbing can be about sharing. stating a grade isn't necessarily "bragging" (look up "brag" in the dictionary and think about it for a minute; i did). if i mentioned the fun 5.9 i did, you wouldn't accuse me of "bragging", but when i mention the superfuckincool 13c/d i did, all of a sudden i'm "bragging"; why the double standard? i talked to stone gardens about this too, and it might happen there. but it's not like it'll really change that much, cuz you know the biggest discussions will end up being about how hard the green tape really is, or somesuch. I think grades are a part of climbing, but it's pretty subjective as to how one relates to those numbers.
-
Now why did I have this feeling?
-
But seriously kev, it seems as though you are taking grades and anyone talking about their climbing a bit too seriously. i'm personally psyched to hear about hard climbs being done in certain areas, cuz it gets me interested in going there. and yes, harder climbs are what i am often interested in, and grades reflect difficulty, a way to at least attempt to communicate something about a climb, admittedly in a rather abstract way that lends itself sometimes too much to an obsession with the abstraction itself. in the end it doesn't much matter if the climb was 5.9 or 5.11 or 5.14; what matters to me is that the climb possessed me (just like 5.11's used to: curious if you'd have had the same reaction if the climb was "only" 5.11), was super intriguing, took a little while to figure out, and because of this, was really rewarding to finally red-point. that's much more important to me than some numerical abstraction, but the numerical abstraction still communicates something about the climb.
-
Dude, you misunderstand! I fucking sent yo! Redpointed that shit! F fuckin' A! I am In the Zines bro! Cuz 13c/d is where it's at!

a friend got dropped 50 feet with a 9.1 through a grigri: yikes! it caught before he decked whew. my new 9.4 was kinda not too sticky through my grigri so i got me a cinch. way locker, but kinda tough at first to lower, until i got a feel for the short handle. there are a couple of new devices out there that are supposta be good with skinnies, and smoother on the lower.
