It is physically impossible to do what LHO was supposed to have done. Fire 6 shots with the piece of crap rifle he had from that distance. Some of the best rifle shooters in the country have tried to duplicate what he did and NONE of them even came close to it.
Not true, It could be done and better. Seen many shows on that. Even stood where the shots were fired. Not impossible.

Called REI, the guy had never heard of them, went and looked, said they don't have them.
As if I could be any more disappointed in the dearth of general outdoor knowledge of those employed by what is now a sad shell of the co-op it used to be.
Does REI have a hard time keeping employees, and is thus compelled to hire idiots, or do they truly nolonger care about product knowledge amongst their staff? I go to REI, on occasion, to make purchases of gear that I am familiar with. I enjoy asking about said gear, and listening to the wide variety of made up bullshit when the green vest knows not what s/he is talking about. They know they should know, and are all too often too cocky to say "I dont know." Sad.

What do you mean? At REI, they love to get outside and play, and they know first-hand the importance of quality outdoor gear. It says so right there on their website!

Equipment note: I've done it a few times before. I always bring a book for when I'm sitting around the Lunch Counter the afternoon/evening before.

I'm in moderate-deep depression.

Also, as far as I know, Castle is the only 'climb' in the Tatoosh. The rest are scrambles. (Castle is the only peak in the Tatoosh that I haven't been up, so you can't take my word for anything about it.) I've scrambled Foss, Boundary, and Stevens before. I've climbed Unicorn, but there were people scrambling past us on another route.

I've only done the 7 peak trip from Pinnacle to Wapaheyho, going from Reflection Lakes to Longmire w/car shuttle. Done that trip 3 times. Never needed crampons or a rope on any of it. Usually took 10-11 hours TH to TH at a fairly moderate pace.
(In order: Pinnacle, Plummer, Denman, Lane, Eagle, Chutla and Wapaneyho)
