  1. Sounds like fun. I was on the Tanner Tr, and farther up-stream (Paria and tributary) about this time last year and had a great time. I'm planning on heading down there again this fall/winter. I got back from working in Fairbanks two wks ago, visited family, and spend a wk sailing durring your slide show. How did it go? p.m. sent, drop me a line it you are interested in my company.
  2. Fun! The Pasayten was on my list for this fall, but here I am still in AK. Keep you eyes open for long winter trips, I'm sure I'll be heading out by then. Probalby the desert SW this late fall. Pine Martins: I made the mistake of sleeping under tree occupied by two such varmits in Yellowstone N.P. The chater kept me up all night!
  3. I saw an AK hiker w/ one (PLB). Very robust, 4 yr batterie life, 24 hr transmition time. His was made in Great Britain. A one-time investment vs the $100/ yr subscrition for SPOT.
  4. Unless I ship gear up I'll be limited to hiking, floating, sea-kayaking. Finishing a job in Fairbanks this wk and am anxious to go exploring. Some ideas: Denali N. P. - Icicle? Car/camp or day trips Kesugi Ridge Backpack 4 days? Can see Denali Trail Creek to Lost Creek in the beautiful Saint Elias Preserve: 3 day to 14 day KAYAK - Whittier N or S, Seward? Other? Many new hiking books out now. r.s.v.p. to jhamaker at opera mail (opera mail is one word) wich is a dot com. or 2o6 then 8l9 ending 556l
  5. A *very* quick search gave me a few #'s on sattelite phones. $2000 phone $50/month for 120 min. $30/month for ??
  6. And in emergencies, you can eat the hamsters. Mt. Rainier Verizon sweet-spots: Near Cougar Rk Campground, SE side of the new visitor's center . . .
  7. I've gone up to Tamarak Flat. The rough rd keeps most folks out. One of the cheaper car-camp sites. What about West Yosemite? That looks interesting. Looks like FS land on the W boundry of the Pk. Any more than two people and you are too conspicuous for Guerrilla camping. Though I have ideas. Call me for beta.
  8. Why did they not mention the RMI guide's name in the morning report?
  9. >>getting into the hut is going to be tough, since the entire road is covered in deadfall.<< Funny. When I think *Fairy Mdws. Hut*, I think *helicopter*. I must be doing too many winter trips in CND.
  10. St. Helens yesterday, Tahoma Gl on Rainier this wk-end, Mt. Caley at the end of the month.
  11. I'm skiing Crystal this wk-end, Rainier or Hood and St. Helens next wk-end. Trip to Smith soon.
  12. Skiing at Crystal this wk-end. Rainier or Hood and St. Helens next wk-end. None of the decents will be you fall-you-die type it at all possible. There are some headwalls I'm planning on hiking.
  13. This spring. One every week! p.m. me.
  14. Always looking for expeditions and longer trips. I've not been to the Selkirks. Is the granite like anything we have near by like the Buggaboos, Stuart range . . . ? 20yrs experience Lead 5.10, A2, WI III, IV Volcano ski project this spring (one a week) I will train. Especially looking for mid-wk. I'll try to remember checking my p.m.'s once a week, probably on Mondays.
  15. I'm tired of carpooling with Seattle folks. I wanna find climbers closer in. 20yrs experience Lead 5.10, A2, WI III, IV Volcano ski project this spring (one a week) I will train. Especially looking for mid-wk. I'll try to remember checking my p.m.'s once a week, probably on Mondays.
  16. The air fare will probably be prohibitive for me. I've got cheaper FA's lined out but a volcano eruption and a partner short of funds nixed that. Boat - I'd just hire someone to drop you off. Lots of boats in the area.
  17. Bush pilot, now there is the catch. Did you see the recomendations in the purple AK climbing guide?
  18. Can do. I'm in Tacoma and work in Oly frequently. Rainier, Snoq. Pass, and or Hurricane Ridge next wk. I've mostly got ski trips planed and Volcano climbs untill end of April. Then I dash off to Red Rocks in NV for rock.
  19. Could lv. Fri. If the weather cooperates, I'd like to spend three days on the N face of a volcano - otherwise a ski traverse.
  20. I may have room for one more on my expedition out of Lk Chakachamna in April. I was planning on staying on for at least the first half of May. Lots of stuff I wanna do up there, including Ruth Ampitheater stuff. Wanna head up there in April? At any rate I would be interested in doing some training climbs/skis this winter. P.M. me, I'll try to remember to check them. Dustin, I'm also very interested in Francis and mabey the Kahiltna Spires?
  21. Aha. Some friends of mine spent about a month late summer doing a traverse. They bagged 14 different peaks. What peaks are you interested in? Waddington I suppose? The area is also accessable w/ a cheaper option - float plane.
