  1. I've read some real horror stories about Lasik fubar's. In general, invasive techniques involving your eyes are a BAD idea. This from someone with a father who oughta be getting frequent flyer points for the number of eye surgeries he's had. Trust me on this one, say no to knives. (Yeah it's a laser, but it's still the same idea)
  2. I've done the fitovers thing, as well as contacts and regular sunnnies. I usually end up taking everything if it's a big trip. My only suggestion would be take alco-prep pads to clean your fingers with before you handle your contacts. For a trip that long, I'd take everything, if you lose/break anything it would suck big time. I've put in contacts in some pretty wild places at a bunch of different elevations and temps, and so far no worries. The only thing that sucks is being on the sharp end and getting crap in your eyes.
  3. Amen. From the north side of the line, but amen all the same. Does anyone actually know any of these people? Perhaps they actually serve a purpose. And Lisa; They drive small convertibles because the crane can just "plop" them into the seat. Become one with the car, be the driver's side air bag.
  4. Anyone been up there recently? 'Shrund info, route variances from the new coast bible (featuring the nude improved Dru aka minor acolyte) Love to hear about it.
  5. Awesome despite the bus driver not letting us ride to 7th heaven. The approach from Solar Coaster took a bit of time, but the snow was decent, nice little craters from the avy control during the winter, and the rock on the crest line was fun, though easy. Three thumbs up.
  6. I've heard those Valley mosquitos have exceptional sight, and pindick, I mean, pinprick accuracy. Dru.
  7. Someone was looking for information about Bolivia a while ago, and I couldn't remember the name of the guy we hired to drive us. I found his business card, Jose Ayala dom:Av. Buenos Aires no.1681 zona alto san pedro tel: 361936 He was very helpful, I don't know if he's still at it, he was fairly old looking when we were there in 97. But boy howdy was he tough. One handed lift of a 60lb duffle bag onto the top of the Land "Cruzer". Stronger than my grandad. Hope that helps.
  8. "What are we going to do now?" "We're going to suffer." "It's all training." "Life is suffering, only death is not." and of course, the Welsh side of things; "Rage, rage against the dying of the light.." Or carry a headlamp.
  9. Did anyone get a copy of the giant sized topo that was on display? I thought they were going to send all registered climbers a copy. Dru, any ideas?
  10. SE - That reminds me of a guy I knew who told me I couldn't be taken seriously as a climber until I bought a VW van and made a trip to Yosemite. I'm climbing harder now than he is, but he's dead.
  11. Naah, but she mentioned she was a physio, and he got all respectful. Apparently physio saved his life or his leg or something. But he bought our drinks.
  12. Joe Simpson tried shamelessly to pick up my wife for most of an evening in a bar in Whistler, but mostly because he thought the Cadillac was hers.
  13. crystal horizon - I'm the best, really. To prove it I'll climb something big alone. Here are my underpants at 27,000 ft. Messner

    look!

Holy cow boys!! A Gurl! Some one put Dru in his kennel befor ehe salivates all over her, and sticks his nose in her crotch.
  15. Dru, There was an organization of professionals (legalists, graphite commandos and orthodontists etc)operating out of Sydney (NSW) that would kidnap dilapitated garden gnomes, and take them on holiday, send photos to the owner, and then return them refurbished in the middle of the night. One of my in-laws belong to it and regularly did the Fiji assignment.
  16. I still laugh about the nutter I met in Frenchman's who started the conversation with," America makes the best beer in the world." Boy I haven't laughed that much in ages. That's what a head injury and years of staring at fish can do to you. Why is it that every micro figures a massive hop bombardment means good. Go smooth, go Boddingtons or Castle Eden. What beer is supposed to taste like.
  17. Does anyone have or have comments about North Face trail shoes? I'm looking for something with a really straight narrow last for running and approaches. TNF seems to fit the bill. Any ideas?
  18. Anything that required sleeping in the same bivy bag as Gourd.
  19. We get a huge number of break-ins up here on long weekends, and I've always figured we should have a lottery. The winner/loser gets to camp out all weekend overlooking the parking lot, dressed in a gille suit and armed with an SSG69. Plug the perps, but leave one alive, with horrible wounds. He gets to be the story teller... There's a story from the N.African war about a patrol of Ghurkas topping a bunch of sleeping Germans, except one, who was ringed with the heads. Wakey wakey.
  20. But it's waaaaay easier and quite beautiful
  21. This thing is still overwhelming my intelligence. That didn't take too long did it. If anyone wants to edit or delete this go ahead.
