  1. The crack neophyte I am is wondering..... If you were to put together a list of crack (trad)routes in the state of Washington for someone who wants to gain a good all around understanding of what crack climbing is really all about what routes would you list and why? How about a progressive list of routes by difficulty, commitment, or other factors grouped in levels such as level 1, 2, and 3?
  2. Like retro said...You Are The Alien.
  3. I agree with your feelings towards the Skaha guidebook. Since that purchase I have used it as a benchmark upon judging all other guidebooks I have fingered (crag climbing guides to be specific). Seriously though, should you really rely on a guidebook for every route you do? Have you ever just walked up to a route eyed it without any knowledge other than what you see and head up it? s.lo. Eerie.
  4. what is your definition of "really fast mo fos"?
  5. Holly you got a FOUR-EYED DOG!!!! Dog owners - would you risk your lives in the mountains for your dog? how about your brother/sister? which one gets priority?
  6. BubbleGut - Are your initials T.D., do some of your friends lovingly call you the Triple T (TTT)? s.lo. Eerie
  7. Geez I just hate 5:30 am Dawn Patrol...the lake alwasys looks too peaceful to disturb - until I pop off the wake the first time. Madrona trees and Turkey Buzzards at Mt. Erie. But you'd better just stay at Fossil Rock it sounds waaaayyyyyy better than Mt. Erie.
  8. The title of this thread should be: WEEKEND WARRIORS GROW HUNCHBACKED OVER WEEKENDS. Just because you are no longer in "civilization" doesn't mean you shouldn't apply the rules of Common Courtesy...especially when afforded to women. Is it too hard to accept a woman wanting to keep private what is private to her? Sure, in the PARTICULAR SITUATION this thread originated there were much better alternatives that should have been used. Like someone else previously said, take the time to look around and enjoy where you are at. While you are doing that maybe let the so-called "sentry" know about other places more suitable for women to do their duty along the trail. It really should not be as big a deal as it seems from the way the thread has gone. s.lo. Eerie.
  9. How many of those deaths are visitors to the area? More importantly, how familiar were those that died with the chosen routes, seasonal snowpack, or any other factors specific to the region that contributed to their deaths? [This message has been edited by Eerie (edited 07-23-2001).]
  10. So where's Sugarloaf at? Tough? I ain't seen nothin yet. But did ya'll hear about the guy in Florida that wrestled a 7ft Bullshark to the shore after it had bitten off his nephews arm and into said nephews leg? Bullsharks are apparently the most vicious sharks after attacking and tasting blood. Seems to me some tough guy Bear Hunters on this site should pick up a new hobby.
  11. When I get bored I'd rather be working out some way be it running, swimming, biking, climbing,...there are lots more options. Sure I'd rather be able to climb every day but that just isn't the case. So when I'm at home and I'm bored like last night I'll just go for a run or a swim and I'm chillin after that. Working out doesn't have to be training in and of itself...for me its to get out and do something other than surfin' the tube.
  12. I think its cool! Oh yeah! If its something she wanted to do and is effective for her then more power to her.
  13. Whats all this hullabaloo about bolts?! Well anyways, besides the bouldering I've done I spent my first whole day climbing without clipping a hangar for protection, as an anchor, or for rappel on Saturday. Either way it's all good to me, I just like climbing.

    Who Would It Be?

Hey mikeadam, if you climb Rachel Babkirk solo does that mean with no protection?
  15. The best beer is the one you have in your hand. Even better than that is the free beer you have in your hand!
  16. Three words....RED MILL BURGERS. It is on Phinney ridge in Seattle. The food is deliciously incredible edible. Make to sure to get a shake and onion rings too.

    Do you toke up?

AlpineK - - A slide show by Chuck Pratt would be awesome to attend. I would also like to see a presentation by Warren Harding. Where did you get to see a Chuck Pratt slide show?
  18. wills I was referring to dru's "active resistance" ploy. He did add one of those winky face things so my belief is he was mentioning the ploy as something of a joke. As to my being a freakin hypocrite try this one out... snowmobiles & oppressive taxes : apples & oranges. I don't know how your idea of the 'loading area' would work at snoparks it sounds good though. My personal experiences sledding have been at a private logging area in the far north cascades and late season Canyon Creek Rd. C.C.R., I guess was a snopark but there were only 4 other rigs, all sledders, up there since it was late season.
  19. Hey, I climbed at 38 last night and had a good time. Isn't that what its all about anyways?! Drop the self-righteous, judgemental attitudes, look deep within yourselves and I'm willing to bet you'll see alot more people having fun too. Oh, and I think anyone that knows BB will agree he is a very peculiar fellow.

    Do you toke up?

I know, old topic. Sorry but, Matt,...one mind, one body, one soul, ONE BOARD. Dru,...acid solo training?! Holy shnickies! I've heard personal accounts of weed and wine being important enough parts of climbing to haul along. Acid just might be too much of a trip. Has anyone ever tried those mushroom things while climbing? s.lo. Eerie.

    Rock Hippy

We all make our own choices of how to lead our lives....so let it be...Life, Liberty, & Property.
  22. I saw this done in a bars bathroom once and I felt like doing it with all the lingo(?)... DUDE.com, TENSION.com, SICK.com, TAKE.com, ALLEZ.com, COMP.comp, DICEY.com, www.RETROBOLT.com, www.iamaPRO.com, www.iTRADtoclimbrealhard.com (or iTRADsickhard.com) Hey, special e, if Sean Connery was telling the story you wrote it'd sound dope. Uh oh, there's another one DOPE.com. Alright, well I guess I'm caught so I'll let everyone know. I once heard the word 'Allez' used as a word of encouragement to another 'climber' to 'send' their 'project' in the 'gym'. This 'hinky' word 'irked' me to no end. Worse than even when a friend came home from europe using the words(?) 'wanker', 'piss-off', and 'fag'. Don't ya'll worry cause you're just as likely to hear me say 'shoot', 'dag nabbit', as 'rad' or 'sick'. I do prefer dope to sick though, although dope does sometimes make you cough like you're sick. wills- - how would you define adventure climbing? would you include the adjective epic in your definition? ok thanks. s.lo. Eerie
  23. Bravo all!! Excellent read.
