i didn't invent the thing, but the Svarsky by ID is a 12 ounce, three person emergency bivy, with vent, thats 4 oz a person, and a two person winter digin if you have skis, 6 oz/person, and a 5x9 tarp for two , but better 1, for general dirtbagging. I like it. it's my most favorite bivy. my second most favorite is the adventure medical kits $20 dollar bivy, i carry it and the Svarsky on EVERY winter ski trip... the medical kit bivy serves as tarp while sleeping on snow and it's a hella more insulative if you need to sit in a 70 MPH sufferfest whiteout.

i thought the restructuring of the us government to operate under the homeland security agency already allowed haliburton principals to buy stock in the soon to be released "terrorist futures index AND natural resources trading grid" for the good of the nation. but the pay to play will go away if we can tell the 100th monkey, i believe?

Beck replied to Peter_Puget's topic in Climber's Board
jesus, that scared me. while the screen was opening on my ENIAc (took a litle while) I was thinking, "A comet the size of Marlon Brando is going to impact the earth in 2009 and is going to end life on this planet as we know it by 2020." I'm glad that was a big sigh of relief (don't scare us, peter, man...) once i saw the first post. -
aw, man, dude, i really needed that 'biner to finish my first ascent in clogs of mount Si! You really didn't use any foil? Dude, erik, man ( dude, I'll trade you a pack of smokes for the biner at the nex pub club, okay?) it's gonna be a flail fest from here on out without it, MAN! and look at all the other best recipes (you're not doing a salmon cookbook, are you?) bastard....

actually, oof white, i posted a remark about groucho. wasn't the post by the original poster talking about not posting much because of all the spray? my take on it is, don't worry about it- the horses ass comment by kurt was rebuffed by a quote by marx. the funny one. and it related to the post, IMO. and no, everything isn't about me? do you think i have the mental capacity you possess, as you assumed i took it personal. haha, the post about groucho even points that out- but don't take it personally. actually, yesterday, there was five pages of churn about a guy named beck, didn't you notice. for many of you yesterday, that's what it seemed to possess most of your posting efforts. so, sorry, charlie. starkist thinks you don't cut the mustard. again. don't take it personally teddy ruxpin dropped you like a hot potato after he caught you sniffing his dirty underwear, he still whispers your name in his sleep, i caught him doing it on the portaledge while sporting a huge puptent... ooops, did i start spraying again? thanks for starting my day out right (actually it was an email from the BD rep, saying he's dropping off a hangboard for ropeup, but this was a second bester!!!) cheers

event is also more breathable than goretex, and has been proven to be so by a gear testing buddy of mine out there. oh, the svarsky. let's see, there are also versions of it by ortovox, hilleberg (kindof) and integral designs. search them out and see the light- but again, it's not the kind of bivy most of you guys are looking for!
-
isn't this whole site pretty much spray? JK
-
funny about the zipper! event fabric is a more breathable alternative to goretex, it eliminates the urethane element in ptfe or some thing like that, makes it so. also, some less expensive options are a epic top/siltarp bottom untralite bivy sack from equinox designs or somesuch, packs twice as small as bibler winter bivy also, the great $20 bivy sack from adventure medical kits, weight 1/2 pound. breathable only by vents, but a damn fine, cheap bivy- it would be perfect for a wanderlust trip in europe for 3 weeks and only $20. other than that, the OR basic bivy, and the marmot precip bivies, are the lightest non event, WB bivies out there, at about 16 ounces each. but the bibler standard is much more climber friendly (get the big wall with tie in loop if you're on the rope alot) and roomy in the interior at about 8 ounces more than these- but I'm very fond of my 12 ounce Svarsky guides sil tarp that is a five foot tall bivy for 3 with vents- 12 ounces, three people, either on a ledge, or in the snow, and a 5x9 tarp for pitching as a canopy- the Svarsky is the most versatile bivy "sack" i've found, but not made the same way most bivies are laid out. 12 ounces!

groucho marx, when told many people thought he was the horses' ass, retorted, "madam, when they tell you you're a horses ass, you're leading the pack, as they are addressing a horses' posterior." a retort pulled by "moderators" yesterday because they found it too contraversial for cc.commers? you guys can't handle groucho?

rbw, this is getting mre deadhorse every post, i tried contacting TG early this year. we never connected. the day he heard Pyramid was donating a keg, he jumped ship like a kid on the titantic, said he hated them. later, when we communicated via emails and on phone, he consistently denied his suport, even after i told him we would pull pyramid brewery if he felt that strongly about it...
-
tg was out like a hot potato once we mentioned pyramid to him, i even pm'ed him ,and talked to him on the phone, AND told him we'd drop pyramid if that was the objection, and he still said no...
-
jon. i'm not ignoring your PM questions,i haven't seen any lately, i'm not able to look up my email from this computer. 1) we are the half dozen people planning ropeup. 2) I've listened to your concerns since we met after the Scott Backes show and you voiced your concern about the directions for this year's ropeup. I did invite you to plan more, but you are busy. I've also listened to Mattp and alpine k about the event, and erik, and ehmic, and have adjusted event as possible (it's mac and jack's erik, and no hefe!!) 3)it's an affectionate name i have for people who climb. if you are comfortable sleeping in the dirt, you are a dirtbagger (actually, it takes a lot more than that, but you get an idea) it's meant to empthasize the grassroots ness of the event, which will have no body walking around with radios! jeesh, it's not hempfest, it's not washington trails day, it's ropeup!
-
actually ryland, i tried to call steve starting in may but his staff is unable to leave him messages or something, as was marmot. when another sponsor agreed to throw in a keg, tg was out. even though it is mac and jack, and not pyramid. sorry guys. there is much more collusion and cooperation behind ropeup then this site thinks. just talked to OR's PR guy, expect something nice in your free giveaway bag if you show up. and msr is doing the same. free stuff for dirtbags. how does that happen? organization. anyone on the site still interested in promoting climbing access issues in the northwest via organizing climbing festivals and events, jump on board. we aren't unveiling what we are doing for the spring... again, because i respect this site and all posters herein, sorry i'm throwing a party for dirtbag climbers, and the sponsors, they just signed up to support you guys. go figure. again, i'm sorry if my actions have been skewed on cc.com
-
you mean, me bring a lousy tapper? no, this year is bigger. sorry to stir up big amounts of controversy over my personality or the parties we throw... when you guys threw parties back in college, how did you go about it? you and a few friends planned, schemed, came up with some good ideas, and then made it happen. did you ask every one who might attend how they want the party thrown? and i did talk with jon, mattp, a few others, even alpine k about ropeup this year and have included their responses in the planning...sorry you have collectively misunderstood. sorry i'm a self promoting, self spraying ass. i know what i'm doing for dirtbag climbers, and so do a lot of others out there, just not maybe in here. ropeup is a party for climbers. huh. go figure. i guess that's BAD, from what I read on this site.

and you can do foil in oven as well, erik but to make salmon into date food, add two finishing touches at end, right before you serve... drizzle with a reduction of balsamic vinegar and a couple fresh raspberries or even better, salmon berries... served on top of a shredded daikon salad and roast potato galettes with blanched veges of your choice... balsamic reduction makes the sweetest sauce, we used to serve it over sorbets, but it rocks with salmon...
-
1 pan meal no cleanup, take 2 big sheets of foil. salmon, butter, s&p, 1 herb of your choice (chervil is very good, dill is okay) and some lemon slices. put all this on top of one sheet, shiney sides fish in, then add the top layer and seal it up tight... do all the seams, folded, like a dry bag, and place on grill till salmon is flakey, 5-7 minutes per inch of thickness, but to your liking... if you do the seams right the foil puffs like jiffy pop or you could get some parchement paper, add vegetables, toss it in a 370 oven, and get classic seafood en papiolette (sp) french restaurants charge 25 bucks for. on the grill you can steam your veggies in foil as well using same type of drybag folds, just add a bit of water... no pots and pans to wash, bro...

and drinking free beers at the bosses desk, using his computer to spray on the web while people watching, now that makes beer taste pretty good, as well...
-
...now I've got to drive to Mount Vernon eveeeery week? thanks a lot, necro!!!!
-
thats already been made clear to our benefactors, erik!! we've briefed them on this alarming scenario!!
-
...free beer does ROCK, winter.... my boss keeps a fridge full of free labatts at my job that i can access 24/7, he encourages it! and i'll find out today what kind of free beverages will be tossed down our gullets at ropeup this year! mmmm, free beer

that started out as a great read, bronco, thanks for bringing back an impression that persists about cc.com, 2 years after Mattp's erudite post in aug 2001...refreshing interesting post that churned into spray... didn't we sing "We are the World" at Ropeup 2001, bronco, right before hikerwa fell in the fire?
-
good attitude and a spark in their eyes usually does it for me, that's why i fell for teddy r so hard i cracked some ribs when he took my breath away!!!
