    My Choice!
  2. Jeesh you guys they are talking about a ray gun: Active Denial Technology uses a transmitter to send a narrow beam of 95-GHz millimeter waves towards an identified subject. Traveling at the speed of light, the energy reaches the subject and penetrates less than 1/64 of an inch into the skin, quickly heating up the skin's surface. The 95-GHz energy penetrates 1/64 inch into the skin and produces an intense burning sensation that stops when the transmitter is switched off or when the individual moves out of the beam. Within seconds, an individual feels an intense heating sensation that stops when the transmitter is shut off or when the individual moves out of the beam. According to reports, a 2-second burst from the system can heat the skin to a temperature of 130° F. At 50 °C, the pain reflex makes people pull away automatically in less than a second. Someone would have to stay in the beam for 250 seconds before it burnt the skin, Despite the sensation, the technology does not cause injury because of the low energy levels used. It exploits a natural defense mechanism that helps to protect the human body from damage. The heat-induced sensation caused by this technology, is nearly identical to the sensation experienced by briefly touching an ordinary light bulb that has been left on for a while. Unlike a light bulb, however, active denial technology will not cause rapid burning, because of the shallow penetration of the beam and the low levels of energy used. The transmitter needs only to be on for a few seconds to cause the sensation. The plan in Iraq is to use it for non-lethal crowd control.

  10. From another thread: ChucK don’t be duped…see the groundwork being set right now … Soon, there will be an elected Iraqi parliament. The elected parliament members will find themselves in the security accountability hotseat very quickly. There will be pressure for *Iraqi* action against any perceived Syrian involvement in the insurgency. The US will not let that action happen without its help. Whether US would prefer to act in Syria or not Iraq will “force” the issue…. ..and then there is Iran.... GWB=LBJ? Problems in Iraq in fact serve the greater purpose.....phase on:get rid of the evil dictator. phase two: fight for the nascent democracy ( the twist here is we are playing the french role a la Lafayette) Who is to say the plan isn't going according to schedule?
  11. Looks more like a Leavenworth shot than Index.
  12. Cancelled
  13. Back in the 70's I heard of Painted Rocks and Cowiche Canyon in relation to rock climbing. I understand Painted Rocks is off limits to climbing because of the Native American artwork, but whatever happened to Cowiche Canyon climbing? Reading the great new guide I realized that there was no mention of the area at all - nor Painted Rocks for that matter. Routes were most definately reported in Climbing Magazine during the 70s.

  16. Speaking of fat I stepped on a scale today and found out that I am 157% of RumR's weight and only 112% of his height - plus I have 10 years on him! Looks like I am going to have to take up alpine climbing.
  17. ..will be victorious!
  18. I am surprised you buy any at all. Isn't one look enough?
  19. It is remarkable how different the recommended routes are. Even on the Tuff stuff Smith has a tremendous variety.

    Go....

  21. Not sure where I got the 12b idea. Right, Watts Tots it is. Short crux. But in the Goldfish bowl. Another good thing about 5 easy pieces is that you can do it in the rain!
  22. I think at 12b its plenty over rated. Compare it to say Tales of Power. My choice for a first 12 project would be that climb left of Latest Rage. Better pro and a bit harder technically than Dreamin' but also shorter! Pitch 1 of 5 easy pieces is a fun well protected easy .12 too - hmm actually that would be my choice.
  23. You're an OW fan, have you ever wrestled with this route at Smith?
  24. Abraxas at Index is the opposite of the Abraxas route at Smith because everyone does the bottom and nobody does the top.
  25. Anyone ever climb this route at Smith? The whole thing or jus the top pitches? Spill the beans!
